Product Empties Part 1: Haircare

I have not done a empties post in FOREVER! Actually, I think I have only done 1 since I started my blog. That means, I have a lot of empties or in other words…garbage! With that being said, I will split this into a few parts: haircare, skincare, body lotions, and makeup. So people may wonder why beauty bloggers save their beauty “garbage.” I really do like reading these posts, because it is fun to see what people end up using up and if it is worth a repurchase.

SHAMPOOS & CONDITIONERS

First off I will tell you that I change my shampoo and conditioner out frequently and hardly ever repurchase. I may repurchase in the future, but usually I try something different once I use a shampoo and conditioner up. I feel like hair builds up a tolerance to the shampoo, therefore it quits cleaning the hair as well as it used to.

En Root Keep My Color Shampoo and Conditioner

One day during shopping at Ulta, I ran across this shampoo and conditioner. I had no idea that they carried The Balm’s shampoo and conditioner. The Balm is one of my favorite beauty brands so I was excited to give this a try. I really did like the scent of this shampoo and conditioner so that was a plus. I felt like the conditioner put a little bit of a film on my hair. With this shampoo, I would have to wash my hair every single day otherwise my hair would get greasy. I did like that it was sulfate free, but I just felt like it didn’t wash my hair as well as I wanted.

Would I repurchase? No

Nexus Color Assure Sulfate Free System Shampoo and Conditioner

Target carried this brand of shampoo so I decided why not try it?!? This shampoo is sulfate free and color safe. I did like this duo for the most part, but like I said above my hair built up a tolerance to it and it did not clean as well. Same thing with the conditioner as the one above. I felt like it put a film on my hair as well. I only used a small amount and rinsed out well, but no matter what I felt like it wasn’t as soft as it could be. But, I am fussy when it comes to shampoos and conditioners.

Would I repurchase? No

healthysexyhair Color Safe Soy Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner

I really wanted to try something a little more natural so I decided to try healthysexyhair’s color safe shampoo and conditioner. This is probably my favorite of  all 3. I did feel like it washed my hair nicely and made it soft. I didn’t have any issues with the conditioner other than it being hard to comb out my hair afterwards. The scent was nice and subtle as well.

Would I repurchase? Yes

LEAVE IN CONDITIONER & HAIR MASK

healthysexyhair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave-In Conditioner

To go along with the shampoo and conditioner above I decided to try this leave in conditioner. Funny story with this product…I almost slipped on the floor because of this leave in conditioner. You probably wonder why? Well, whenever I pressed down the pump the product pretty much sprayed all over. So I would spray it on my hair and a little got on the floor. Well, I could have broken a bone. Anyway, enough of that. I ended up just spraying it in my hand and placing it into my hair. The formula of this is very liquidy so the application I found to be annoying. Otherwise, it did help with brushing out my hair. But, in reality there is something better out on the market.

Would I repurchase? No

AG Hair Cosmetics Keratin Repair Reconstruct Intense Anti-breakage Mask

I highlight my hair, so by doing that I damage my hair. Also, I had dyed my hair brown about 2 years ago and went back to blonde the end of that year. Doing that caused some damage to my hair and I just felt like my hair was fragile and breaking all the time. So I decided to try this! The scent of it smells good. It is hard to describe, but I do like it. It makes my hair soft, manageable, and those fly aways aren’t as bad. I have had people comment that my hair looks nice after using this mask. I try to use it at least once a week, sometimes 2. The a big con is the price tag. But, AG Hair Cosmetics is more natural and cruelty free.

Would I repurchase? Yes, and I have actually already done that. I am already halfway through my second one.

Day 20: Happy Easter!!!! Plus The Beauty Scenario Tag

This is going to be a short post! I sort of got overwhelmed during the #30daysofthebeautydeputy so I just wanted to do a quick post today! I am working this weekend during Easter. My family is getting together next weekend instead and then we will also celebrate April birthdays during that time as well. But, I just wanted to take the time to wish you all a Happy Easter! I of course we will wearing my Easter scrub top! 🙂 I remember back when I was a little girl, my cousin and I would get matching Easter dresses and it actually looked like Spring outside with leaves and flower blossoms! We would have the Easter egg hunt outside! Nope, not this year or the last or maybe even the last. The ground is covered in snow!  Lol, anyway sorry for yet another rant about the Minnesota weather! Can you tell I am sick of it?!?

1. You have to get rid of all your foundations and you can only keep one high end and one drugstore, which do you keep?

I only use 1 brand of foundation which is tarte. I have their powder foundation and also their liquid foundation. If I had to get rid of one of those I would get rid of the powder foundation. I use the Amazonian clay full coverage foundation in the shade light sand in their liquid formula.

2. You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?

This is a hard question, I would like to think that I would tell the person and then make a joke about it. But, in reality I don’t think that I would say anything. I’m a fairly shy person especially with meeting new people.

3. You’re not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which lipstick do you put on to make yourself feel beautiful?

My Urban Decay lipstick in the shade Strip. It is an urbandecay.com exculsive, but I love that shade.

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair and makeup differently?

In high school I would get up in the last possible moment and then shower (I loved my beauty sleep and I still do), but usually I didn’t have time to blow dry my hair so I ended up going to school with wet hair. I didn’t ever wear makeup in school either because I was a late bloomer with my love of makeup. I don’t know if I really would change anything except not going to school with wet hair. I did love my hair in high school because it was super long. The length is probably why I hated blow drying it.

5. You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length Pixie Lott hair cut, but they hear wrong and give you a pixi cut. Do you a) Smile, say thank you, leave and call your mum hysterical b) Cry in the chair and things get awkward or c) Complain to the manager and demand a refund.

First of all my hairdresser would know better. She knows I’m growing my hair out so she would ask me probably a million times are you sure. But, if I did have a pixi cut I would probably cry in the chair. I could never pull off that short of hair.

6. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have 1 hour to pack. Which ‘do it all’ palette do you pack in your makeup bag?

I would probably bring my naked 2 palette because it is travel friendly and comes with a 2 sided brush. It also doesn’t take up much room in a suitcase.

7. Your house has been robbed, don’t worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What’s the product you really hope is safe?

Can I say my palette drawer! Does that count? No I would hope that my Urban Decay The Great and Powerful Oz palettes are safe because they’re limited edition!

8. Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven’t noticed b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs

First of all I don’t think that would happen because my friends don’t share the love of makeup with me. Also, my friends would not destroy my makeup, but I would be pick B (ask them to replace it) because I would do the same if I borrowed something that ended up getting ruined.

Day 6: TAG 10 Beauty Mistakes I Used to Make!

I saw this tag going around Youtube, and I thought it would be a cool tag to do. Right now I’m thinking of the new
Christina Perri song, “Human” because we are all only human. We make mistakes! We may be in a hurry and do things that maybe we shouldn’t. So here are my list of beauty mistakes that I used to make. Honestly, sometimes I still do make them.

HAIR

1) Not using a heat protector
I am very guilty of not using a heat protector. I hardly ever curl my hair or use a hair straightener, but I do a lot of blow drying. Even that is harsh on hair! I’ve been using the Tresemme heat protector. Recently I got a free Take 10 from Ulta and one of the 10 things that apparently this does is protect from heat.

2) How I shampooed my hair
I used to put shampoo in my hands and then start on the top of my head. Doing that usually ended up with tons of tangles. The best way to shampoo your hair is to start at the middle part of the hair to the ends and work the shampoo up to the roots without turning it into a rats nest.

3) I used the wrong brush when my hair was wet
I have been super mean to my hair! Taking a hot shower makes hair fragile. Nobody likes a cold shower, unless it’s a super hot day! Taking a hot shower opens up the hair follicles making breakage easier. So using the wrong brush was not good for my hair. Sometimes yes we are in a hurry and we can’t wait for our hair to dry some before brushing it. Maybe do your makeup first? I decided to toss my normal brush and I ordered a new type of brush: the tangle teezer! I will be doing a review on these brushes sometime coming up.

NAILS

4) Basecoat? What’s that?
I never used a basecoat! Then I would be annoyed when I took my polish off and my nails were stained. This is mostly on my toes, because especially during the summer I wear nail polish all the time. Some of those brighter colors have a tendency to stain those nails! So use a base coat!

5) Laziness on actually taking the polish off
Just go get that nail polish remover instead of doing what I used to do! Don’t peel that polish off the nail bed. It isn’t good for them! I’m very guilty of this recently because I got a gel manicure and it started peeling off. I’m sort of OCD so I peeled some of it off before I got to the store to get acetone remover! Naughty me! My nails looked awful after that! They’re getting better now and plus I’ve been taking Biotin.

SKINCARE

6) Being mean to my under-eyes
This skin is fragile! FRAGILE! I used to have dry eyes and I used to rub my eyes. NO NO! Naughty me! That causes premature wrinkles! Wish I could take that back because I don’t want wrinkles! Also, I used to use my pointer finger to apply under eye lotion or concealer. No! Use that ring finger because it is the weakest finger on the hand.

MAKEUP

7) Applying concealer
I used to apply concealer the wrong way. I would apply it under the eyes, but then I was rub it in lightly. It is better to tap (using that ring finger) or a brush and blend it in. Rubbing the concealer in defeats the purpose. Tapping it in makes for a much better finish.

8) Powder powder! 
I would apply my concealer and not set it with powder. Then it would crease and my mascara would go all over my under-eyes. Soon I looked like a panda! Now that I set my concealer with powder, the longevity of my mascara is so much longer. I don’t use powder for oily skin ( I have dry skin), but use it for pulling the look together.

9) Eye-shadow problems
When I first started getting into eye-shadow, I wasn’t sure on the best way to apply it. I would place it on the brush and sweep it across the lid. Doing it that way caused for more fall-out. To get the best pigmentation and the least amount of fall-out placing the shadow on the brush and then patting the eyelid works the best for me. Then after that use a blending brush to blend out the harsh lines.

10) Washing those makeup brushes…
I think that this is a mistake that a lot of people make. I do wash my makeup brushes, just not as often as I should. Not washing them can cause germs and then dipping them into shadows places germs in the shadows. Ick! I really need to wash my brushes again. Here is a beauty mistake that I still do make. I will be doing a post on how I wash my makeup brushes in the future!

Day 1: Beauty & Fashion Spring Picks Blog Hop

It is time for another blog hop!! This time we decided to do Spring Product Picks as our topic, which is very fitting for this time of year. Although, looking outside I feel like Spring is so far away. Even though I see a little (brown) grass, there is mostly snow. I still have been using some products of mine that scream Spring! The Winter colors are long gone and it is time for Spring!  I am going to share with you all a variety of items that I will be using this Spring such as: makeup, clothing, accessories, and much more.

MAKEUP

During the winter months, I tend to wear a lot of neutral colors and I got a lot of use out of my Naked palettes and my Sigma warm neutrals palette. Although, I feel like I could still use those palettes in Spring, I am more excited about colorful eye shadow looks. Bye bye neutrals! Hello color!

Eye-shadow Palettes

My favorite makeup item is eye shadow. If you have been following my blog, you probably know that is no surprise! It is my favorite part of makeup application because I love finding my creativity with my eye looks! If I am going to apply makeup, I will never skip eye shadow.  I do have quite a few makeup palettes. I almost didn’t include all these, but I really think that they’re perfect for Spring. I love the colors in all of them!

Aren’t the colors gorgeous?!? I feel like all these colors are perfect for Spring.

Stila In The Garden Palette
 I love this palette because I can make a multitude of looks. My favorite shadows in this palette are the green ones, also the purple toned one that reminds me of the color of the year (radiating orchid).
Inglot Freedom System
I picked out the shadows to fill my palette, and as you can see, I went for brighter colors. I have a variety of colors such as: mint green, an orchid color, and many more. 
Urban Decay The Great and Powerful Oz Glinda
Palette
I love this palette! I also love this movie! My favorite shadows include: the purple shadow and the pink shadow.
Kat Von D Esperanza Palette
I got this palette mostly for the purple and mint green shadow. This palette has a variety of colors that end up working together in this palette. I love the purple color making it perfect for Spring!
Sigma Creme De Couture Palette
This was a limited edition palette inspired by macaroons. I feel like they should have waited and released this palette now because it has such bright, fun colors. They released it last year, around Fall time, which didn’t really make sense.
Sigma Flare Palette
I love this palette for the colors that it includes, especially the purple shadows. I haven’t got much use out of the other colors in this palette, but I look forward to finding my creativity with it.

The Balm How ‘Bout Them Apples?
How adorable is this palette’s packaging? The Balm always does amazing things with packaging! I don’t really use cream blushes that often so there is still learning in process on application. It will be fun using this palette this Spring.
Pixi Beauty Blush in No. 3 Perkiest Pink
Got this blush on clearance at Target. I’m glad that I picked this blush up, because the color is amazing. It is a super nice Springy pink.
Sleek Blusher in Coral
Of course, I needed to include my coral Sleek blush. Love this blusher that I got in my box swap. Such a gorgeous coral blush color!
Clinique Cheek Pop in Plum Pop
If this blush doesn’t scream Spring, than I don’t know what does? It is shaped as a lovely daisy flower and the color is gorgeous!

Lips

I love these! I started out with the color, Guava Berry and I have almost used that one up. I decided to get more of them since I love them so much. I will be doing a review on these lovelies! So make sure to check back! They’re so easy to use and perfect for Spring time. This is a product that I sent to Effie in my box swap!

Maybelline Color Elixir in Dashing Orchid
This is perfect because it is the color of the year. Gives such a nice color to the lips and so far I’m loving the texture.
Nyx Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait
Nyx Butter Glosses are amazing! They also smell amazing as well! I will be posting a review on these soon!
Julep Lip Gloss in Enchanted
Love the color of this gloss! It is sure Enchanted!

I got this gloss awhile ago when it first came out. I haven’t worn it much because I think that it is more fitting for Spring-time.

I got most of this clothing at Maurices or Vanity, except for the scrubs shown. For Spring, I am excited to bring out the fun colors such as: pinks, orange, turquoise, and many more. Of course, I had to show a few Spring dresses (more like Summer) because I can’t wait for the snow to melt. As you can see, I took these photos by the window and you can still see the icky snow! I hear that it is supposed to snow here again, but who knows! Those meteorologists aren’t always right! Working as a nurse on the medical-surgical floor, I supply my own scrubs, so that means I want to wear Spring ones during Spring. I am also into holiday scrubs! I just got that Easter one shown above! Isn’t it adorable!?!? I know I didn’t show any bottoms, but I can’t wait until I can at least wear capris and sandals. Sadly, I think I’ll be wearing pants for awhile and won’t be able to take my sandals out until all the snowy, muddy mess is gone!

Sandals! I can’t wait to wear these lovelies! I love wearing sandals! Although, I will have to get my feet ready for sandal season by getting a pedicure! SNOW MELT!!!! Just not too fast, so that it floods!

I got this purse on sale, and I decided that purple would be perfect for Spring. It is also the perfect size and the inside print is adorable! The color in real life is closer to the second photo.  I got this purse at Herberger’s!

Scentsy

Just thought I should share with you all my favorite Spring Scentsy warmer. I have a ton of these warmers because I am a Scentsy consultant. These warmers melt scented wax using a lightbulb. This one is shaped as an egg and adorable!!! I of course, have a ton of favorite Scentsy bar scents such as: Jumpin’ Jelly Bean and Black Raspberry Vanilla.,

PERFUME ❤

Here are a few (or 6!) of my favorite perfumes that I feel are perfect for Spring! I love perfumes! Although I can’t wear it everyday because of being a nurse, I love wearing it on my days off!  The descriptions start on the top left to top right, and then bottom left to bottom right.

  1. Anna Sui La Vie De Bohème. You can find this perfume here. I love the scent of this perfume! According to Sephora the notes include: Turkish Rose, Pear, Red Berries, Dragon Fruit, Magnolia, Peony, Freesia, White Wood, Skin Musk, Red Raspberries, Vanilla, Sandalwood Accord. I think that it has a nice mix of scents: pretty, fresh, and sweet. It isn’t too floral which is always a plus.
  2.  Katy Perry Meow. You can find this perfume here. I really love this perfume! The packaging is adorable for one thing! Who doesn’t love cat packaging!?!?! Notes include: top notes (Tangerine, Pear and Gardenia), middle notes (Honeysuckle, Lily of the Valley and Orange Blossoms), and bottom notes (Vanilla, Musk Amber and Sandalwood). I just think that this scent is very girly. It smells fruity, floral, and fresh. Love it! ❤
  3. Mark Night Iris. You can find it on Avon’s site here. What Avon says, “Its dark, mysterious beauty draws you in. Its scent surprises, lighter than you’d ever expect. This is Night Iris as it’s never been before, artfully blended with hints of water lily, exotic berries and purple freesia to add to its feminine allure.” I used to sell Avon/Mark and this is one my favorite perfumes from them. It smells amazing with feminine, fruity, and floral hints.
  4. Clinique Happy in Bloom. I got this little sample for Christmas. You can find the perfume at Ulta here. What Ulta says, “Everything we love about spring – in a bottle. Clinique’s upbeat floral fragrance makes your world sweeter, softer, brighter. Captures the feeling of a world suddenly in bloom. But just like the season, it won’t be here forever.” This is my favorite Clinique perfume and it definitely reminds me of Spring when flowers are blooming.
  5. Maurices Myliu. I love this perfume! I got it at my favorite store Maurices awhile ago. I can’t find it online on their site anymore, but if you’re in Maurices and see this perfume, I recommend checking it out. It smells amazing! I don’t even know how to explain this scent, but it is a favorite of mine.
  6. Avon Secrets to Keep. You can find this perfume on Avon’s site here. What Avon says, “A dreamy blend of fruits and florals. Whispers of sweet apple and juicy strawberry with a passionate heart of jasmine, white musk and warm sandalwood.” I love this scent! It smells fruity and floral, but mostly fruity. I definitely can smell the strawberry notes in it. 

NAIL POLISHES

Going through my nail polish collection, I picked out these lovely colors. I am horrible at painting my nails so I don’t do it as often as I want. But, this Spring, I want to paint my nails more!

Haircare Empties!

So this is my first empties post! I always think that these are fun posts to read! You can really see what a beauty guru, like myself, ends up using up and what they want to repurchase. With that, I think that I can get more of an idea if the blogger/YouTuber really liked the product compared to Monthly Favorites! So I decided to break up my empties posts into categories because I had quite a bit and I didn’t want the post to get too long! So this one is haircare!!! First off, I’m kind of an odd duck because I use more than one shampoo/conditioner at a time. I feel like my hair grows an immunity to shampoo after awhile and in the end doesn’t clean as well. I will be honest I wash my hair pretty much everyday. I haven’t found a dry shampoo that is worth it yet!

MARRAKESH ARGAN OIL SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER

When I went to go get my hair highlighted and cut my hairstylist put an oil in my hair from this line. It smelled amazing!!! I could not get over the smell! So I looked up on Google to see if they had a shampoo and conditioner and sure enough they did! It is from a company called, “Earthly Body.” They have 3 scents, but I got it in original. The scent is so hard to describe, but it is very oriental and earthy. Trust me, it’s amazing!

  • All natural and Sulfate Free- encouraged for daily use on ALL hair types
  • Leaves hair clean, incredibly hydrated, and healthier than ever before

  • Gentle enough for the most sensitive of scalps, strong enough for the unruliest of hair

Will I purchase it again? The answer is yes! I just need to wait for a sale or something!

I loved this shampoo! It is sulfate free, paraben free, and cruetly free! All that is important to me! I do get a dry scalp so anything sulfate free is a must! It washed my hair really well. I might get a smaller bottle next time because this latest me forever! This shampoo doesn’t lather very well because it is sulfate free, but that doesn’t bother me. It made my hair feel shiny and soft!

Conditioner 

This also smelled amazing, it was the same scent, but lighter. I got it at the same time as the shampoo through Amazon.

I loved this conditioner! My hair becomes so tangled when wet. I just thought of Rapunzel in the movie, “Tangled.” Wow that is a lot of hair to care for! I wonder what conditioner she uses? Of course my mind would drift to a Disney movie!

Ok..Brittany.. back to the empty review! So this conditioner makes it really easy to brush out my hair. It also makes it feel light and soft.

AG HAIR COSMETICS STERLING SILVER TONING SHAMPOO

I have dark blonde hair and I do love to get it highlighted. My hairstylist recommended this brand for me to try. This shampoo helps make my blonde stay vibrant and gets rid of those unwanted brassy tones.

Will I purchase it again? The answer is yes because I am always in need of a purple toning shampoo. I don’t want my blonde highlights looking brassy. This shampoo also does smell good and lathers well. Also it is cruelty free! 🙂

MACADAMIA NO TANGLE LEAVE IN CONDITIONER

I wanted to get a leave in conditioner and I always heard good things about this brand so I decided to pick up the smaller size of this leave in conditioner. (I do have their hair masque, a review will be coming soon.)

What Macadamia Natural Oil says about this leave in conditioner? You can find more information here. They did change the name a bit. It is now called, “No Tangle Pre-Styler.

I didn’t think that this product helped that much. I recently got a different leave in conditioner that I like much better than this one. I will do a review on it sometime in the future. The product itself is lightweight and didn’t weight down my hair any. I just felt like it didn’t help that much with detangling. That is cool that it provides UV protection at least.

December Favorites 2013

So the song another one bites the dust by Queen comes into my head because another month is gone and it’s time for December favorites! Also it’s 2014!!!! That’s crazy! That means in about 3.5 years it will be my 10 year reunion!

So this month I have been loving quite a few products!

1. Urban Decay’s Original Naked palette

I got this palette during the beginning of the month and let me tell you, I LOVE IT! I love the looks that I can create with it, and I do think I like it more than the Naked 2 which I have had for awhile. I love that the shades are more bronze-hued and more warm toned. I will be doing a post sometime in January on a comparison and review of all 3 Naked palettes.

2. Bedhead After Party Smoothing Cream for Silky, Shiny, Healthy Looking Hair! 

Yes, yes I know that this is an odd shape. I have heard many times that it resembles the look of a penis which makes me giggle. Yes, I know real mature. But anyway, onto the point. I have numerous flyaways and I need something to tame them down without making my hair greasy. This does just that, but only a little bit is needed. My hair also does feel silky and shiny with this product.

3. Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer in Light by The Balm

I love this stuff! I haven’t had it for that long. I got it on Cyber Monday. For a tinted moisturizer it has good coverage and makes my skin feel soft and moisturized. I have some redness to my skin so this covers it up nicely. It also has SPF 18 which is an added bonus.

4. Eucerin Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme

My hands got so dry and rashy this month and the past few months. My knuckles were also cracking. I would go to sleep (still do) with this caked on my hands and wear the green gloves to bed. They’re so much better now thanks to this cream. I love that it is so thick. I feel like the thicker the lotion or creme the more moisturizing. I included a picture of what my hands looked like after a night at work using their soaps and gloves, and that isn’t even them being that bad. I since then use my own soap. I’m hoping this is just a seasonal thing.

5. Benefit’s Box O’ Powder in Rockateur 

I love love love this blush! This is my only Box O’ Powder from Benefit Cosmetics. This blush has been in a few of my posts. It’s one of my all time favorite blushes that I own. The color is a gorgeous rose gold and is perfect for a lot of skin tones. It is also easily blend-able to create the perfect look! I am not a big fan of the brush, but it does work for travel.

6. Charity Pot Lotion by Lush

I love this lotion! I’ve gone through 2 tubs of this since I discovered it. A thing that I love about this lotion is that they donate 100% of their proceeds to charities with each purchase of this lotion. I think that is amazing because it is 100%! The lotion is super moisturizing and I love using it all over my skin (except for face) after showering. It does have a flowery cocoa scent and it is kind of overpowering in the tub, but isn’t when on the skin.

7. Let the Good Times Roll Facial Scrub

I am in love with stuff! It smells amazing!!!! It also feels amazing on the skin! I have so many good words to say about this product! I actually ran out of it and will repurchase this stuff again and again and again! 8. Jumbo Eye Pencil by Nyx Cosmetics in the color Milk

I love using this as a base under eye shadows. It makes the shadows stand out more with the base being white. This is also super creamy and blends super easy. It is also very cheap and high quality! I got mine at Ulta. They also come in many different colors, but the color milk is my favorite. Comment if you want to see the other colors of these that I own. I could do a quick post on that if you’re interested.

Lush Jumping Juniper Shampoo Bar Review

I never really heard about shampoo bars until I went into a Lush store. I thought it was a neat idea, but wondered how could that work the same as liquid shampoo. Yet I knew I had to test it out!  I decided on the Jumping Juniper shampoo bar. Lush has quite a few different shampoo bar options such as: hair growth, oily hair, dry hair, tangled and unruly locks, and many more. Well I am a person that washes their hair everyday. I know I know it’s bad on my hair, but my hair does get oily if I don’t do that. I decided on the Lumping Juniper one because it’s formulated for oily hair and it did smell the best. I also got a little tin case for storage.

What does Lush say about this shampoo bar?

Our purple shampoo bar jumps into action to sort out oil problems on top. It cleans away grease and balances sebum production for soft, shiny (in the good way) hair. What I thought of the shampoo bar?

Pros

  • smells like lavender and lemon which I think smells good
  • Doesn’t have an overpowering smell
  • Perfect for travel
  • Lathers really well (can be a pro and a con)
  • Super easy to use
  • Makes my hair feel really clean
  • It is good for my greasy hair (My hair still looks good the next morning, but at middle to end of the day it’s getting oily.)
  • Has mostly natural ingredients
  • Lasts a long time (The employee at Lush told me it lasts about 80 washes. I have not been counting, but I do have a lot left.)
  • Product is Vegan and cruelty free

Cons

  • Dries out hair if used too often or everyday (due to the con down below)
  • Has sodium lauryl sulfate in it which is a surfactant (allows water and oil to become mixed). This is a big con for me. SLS causes the lather, but it is also very drying to the hair and the scalp. When products say they’re sulfate free it means that the product was formulated without SLS.
  • Hard to get the shampoo bar out of the container (make sure to open the container before getting your hands wet otherwise it is impossible to open and also the container has just enough room to house the shampoo bar so there is no wiggle
    room making it hard to get the shampoo bar out because it likes to stick to the bottom)
  • Price: $10.95 which is kind of expensive for a shampoo bar, but it is Lush

All in all I did like this shampoo bar, but I am still disappointed that they used sulfates in their products. I am still a big Lush fan and will always love Lush products. Lush does have a lot of really good ingredients that they use in their products. But, hopefully one day they will go sulfate free! A Get to Know Me Tag!

I love these types of things! I also thought this set of questions was a good one and good for a beauty blogger like myself! I saw this post from Britney at buzybritney2009.wordpress.com.  I will link her post below.

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?

Naturally straight. One time in middle school I got a perm because I really wanted curly hair. Well that was a bad idea because it made my hair so fragile. But, now it is good.

 2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?

I have naturally dark blonde hair and I go to the salon to have it highlighted. Last year I dyed my hair dark brown which I really liked, but it grew out too fast and then I looked like a skunk with my blonde roots coming through. I also had red hair one time. It was one of those dyes that washes out after awhile. It started out really dark red, but when it got to be strawberry blonde random people stopped me and said they liked my hair (like at the grocery store).

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?

I usually wear it down. Otherwise I wear it in a ponytail at work.

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?

I hardly do a manicure because nail polish doesn’t last. But, on my birthday on Monday I am getting my first gel manicure with my mom. I’m hoping it last a lot longer then regular nail polish. Last time I painted my nails it lasted less than 24 hours before my first chip.

5. How often do you change your nail polish?

Refer to question number 4. Two days ago I tried to do a candy cane look on my nails. Well that was a miserable fail!

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?

I usually do all year around. But so far this winter I haven’t polished them. I should go do that.

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?

It depends on what I am doing for that day. I take the longest on my eye makeup. I would say 15 to 20 minutes.

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?

Depends on the shadow I am using. If it is an eye shadow that has a lot of fallout I will do my eyes first. Most of the time I do my face first. I don’t wear much face makeup. I sometimes wear foundation, otherwise lately I have been wearing a tinted moisturizer.

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?

I would have to say I collect makeup. If you have seen my Perfect Palette Tag I’m sure you would agree. I love eye shadow palettes. It’s my favorite kind of makeup. They also make it hard when they come out with new exciting ones all the time.

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?

I have never tried wearing false lashes. Well I have tried this product called 3D Fiber lashes from Younique that applies just like mascara. Basically after applying regular mascara, transplantation gel is added over the mascara, and then fiber lashes are applied. I will do a review on it soon.

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?

No I don’t. I hardly wear any makeup at work.

12. Do you wear makeup when you’re home alone or with family?

I wear makeup on my days off. Somedays I take lazy days and don’t put on makeup if I plan on being home alone. But, I most likely always put it on for family.

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?

I leave the house without makeup all the time.

14. How many high-end products do you have?

Quite a few.

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you’re getting dressed?

I decide when I am getting dressed. Either I put on a pair of scrubs (if I’m working) or regular clothes.

16. How often do you change your handbag?

Not very often. Every few months.

17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?

I wake up and go to sleep at 12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, or 11 (AM/PM) I never ever go to bed or wake up at the same time. I don’t get the luxury of working 8-5 or any regular hours. I work 7 am to 7:30 PM or 7 PM to 7:30 AM. If I work the next day I go to bed at 10 PM or around there and if I work the next night shift I stay up the night before as late as I can sleep in as late as I can. Since I work 12 hour shifts I get more days off during the week. I am also only considered part time.

18. How often or when do you workout?

I will admit I could workout more. I like doing it when I get up in the morning.

19. Left handed or right handed?

Right handed. I am pretty useless with my left hand.

20. How tall are you?

5’6″

21. Do you speak any foreign languages?

I was in Spanish in high school and during my senior year of high school I went to Spain and traveled to many different cities with a school group. I also got to stay with a host family. That was a really good experience.

22. How many pets do you have?

I have a dog named Mirya and a cat named Molly. I also have a dog named Maddie who just turned 10 that lives at my parents house. I was in 9th grade when we got her.

23. How do you blog?

I usually start out with thinking of ideas. Then I take pictures, upload them. Then start blogging away! I use my desktop computer.

24. Do you read comments posted on blogs?

Yes, always. I feel like that is part of blogging. I also respond to comments.

25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?

In the back of my mind. But, no I don’t make an actual physical list.

26. How did you come up with your blog name?

I was trying to think of something to go with Beauty and I don’t know Deputy just kind of came to me. My boyfriend asked me last night why I don’t want to be the Beauty Sheriff. Well, I feel like Beauty Deputy sounds better.

27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?

I use my Iphone 4s or I use my Sony Cyber-shot (16.1 mega pixels and 10x optical zoom).

28. How often do you clean your house?

I do spot cleaning every day, but deep cleaning once a week to every other.

29. What’s your favorite color?

It always changes. But, it has been purple for the longest time.

30. Do you swear?

Sometimes, I try not to swear. I hate when people can’t carry on a normal conversation without a swear word.

31. What are you doing with the rest of your day?

Well it is my day off and then I work this weekend. I plan on going to my parents house because my nieces are staying there and then I am going to take them to Frozen.
