Getting Back into Blogging and some Beauty Hauls

This year has been super busy for me that I have been very neglectful to my blog. My neglectfulness started once I started a new job last year. I was used to the hospital with doing 12 hour shifts and then I could work on blogging during my days off as needed. With having a full time job that involved a lot of computer charting, I just didn’t have motivation to come home and stare at a computer. That job just left me feeling defeated and I needed something new. I started a new job with all normal hours about 2 months ago! I am a nurse at a clinic now. Now, I feel like I am less stressed out and that I can get back into blogging little by little. I don’t want to go months at a time without a post ever again! So why not start out with showing you all my latest hauls. I got these items over the past 5 to 6 months or so. Some of them I got recently, but hey we don’t need to explain ourselves right?!?…we are all beauty lovers here.

Metamorphosis Quad by Coffee Break with Dani

Coffee Break with Dani is one of my most watched YouTubers. She has such a sweet bubbly personality in her videos. She got to team up with ColourPop Cosmetics and make this amazing quad of shadows. She put a ton of thought into the meaning and the shades of this quad. This is Limited Edition-so it won’t  be around forever. I plan on doing a review on ColourPop shadows sometime in the future.

Too Faced Haul

Too Faced came out with a lot of new products recently. It feels like yesterday these products came out, but it has been a couple months already. I really wanted to try their new foundation Born This Way-I sadly got the wrong shade (note to self never buy foundation online). It looks too yellow on me, but I do like the formula. The palette is gorgeous! I will do a review on it coming up soon so stay tuned for that one! The kabuki brush had amazing reviews so I wanted to try it out. So far I am loving it! It is perfect for travel which makes sense since it is retractable. They also came out with new blushes. They’re so adorable with the heart shape and the cute bunnies inside. I will do a review on that blush as well.

Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Palette and Eye Brush

Lately I have been really impressed by Kat Von D and her makeup line. I’ve heard rave reviews on this palette so I picked it up to see what all the fuss was about. It has a nice array of neutral matte shades. Although, I sometimes like to add a shimmery ColourPop shadow on top when I use this palette because well…this girl loves her shimmer. I also got the eye brush which is super soft and perfect for travel.

The Body Shop Body Butters

These are my holy grail body butters that I use for moisturizing my body. I got these during a trip to Mall of America. These are super moisturizing and smell amazing! I decided on a variety of them-I think I only have 2-3 left of these. Ignore my ugly carpet in the picture.

IMG_20150708_234546446

Some Ulta Goodies!

Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands as well so I decided to pick up their new Smoky palette about a month and a half ago. I also got the Lorac Contour Pro Palette at that time as well. Recently, Too Faced came out the Star Dust Vegas Nay palette. This is my most recent purchase! This palette is simply gorgeous!

20150904_180808

Click the link below for a photo on Instagram of a few more items I got. I got the Stila mascara and primer, and an eyeliner. I also picked up some The Balm products from Kohls.

That concludes this huge makeup haul! Like I said this was over 5-6 months. Yes, it is still a lot, but that comes with the territory of being a makeup enthusiastic and beauty blogger. It feels good to be back to blogging! I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know what recent beauty purchases you have made and if you have tried any of the products that I talked about in this post!

Monthly Beauty Favorites: March 2015

This year has seriously been flying by, but that just means that here in Minnesota we’re closer to warmer weather! I can’t wait to wear summer dresses and sandals! A few weekends back I ditched my winter jacket because it was 60 degrees out! People were jacket-less and grilling in the middle of March. That was a weird feeling, but that is Minnesota for you. This month I found some new beauty loves and some re-discoveries! With that, I hope you enjoy my March monthly favorites!

IMG_20150328_124701[1]
1) Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_20150328_124513[1]

This month I have been loving this matte palette from Tarte. This is a very wearable neutral all matte palette. It has 12 shades included; a row of cool tones, a row of warm tones, and a row of purple tones. I am quite surprised with how smooth and blend-able these shadows are. They’re very versatile shades as well. Not only do I like to use this palette alone, I also love pairing it with the Makeup Geek foiled eye-shadows; if I want to add a metallic finish to the matte look.

2) Brilliant & Spellbinding Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_20150328_124439[1]

I have had this palette for a little while now, but one day while doing my makeup I was in search of a coral shade. Be hold the amazing Brilliant and Spellbinding palette by Sigma Beauty. I also really love the yellow shade as well. This palette is very “Spring” feeling in my opinion with the pink, yellow, and coral shades. I really love the Sigma Beauty eyeshadow formula in these palettes. They’re very pigmented, blend-able, and smooth. They have four palettes like these all together. I am thinking about de-potting all 4 of these palettes into a z-palette.

3) Urban Decay 24/7 glide-On Eye Pencil in Scorch

IMG_20150328_124611[1]

During my last trip to the cities I was looking for a bronze-brown eyeliner shade and ending up finding the shade Scorch. I have been using this shade quite a bit lately. It is a gorgeous shade that works well with neutral looks. I love the Urban Decay’s eyeliner formula and find it to be the best out of any that I have tried. I love how creamy and easy to apply they are.

4) Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Iced Mocha

IMG_20150328_124631[1]

I really love my Nyx Jumbo pencils! They work really well as a base. I never use them on their own, but they could be if you wanted to. The shade Iced Mocha is a gorgeous shade and works well underneath any neutral look. I feel like these jumbo pencils help my eyeshadow last longer during the day. I still use Urban Decay’s original eyeshadow primer underneath.

5) Lush Cosmetics Honey Trap Lip Balm

IMG_20150328_124544[1]

Recently I re-discovered this lip balm. I had it before and ended up losing it, so when I was at Mall of America’s Lush store I decided to replace it. This stuff is super moisturizing and smells like honey. 😀 I always use it before I go to bed and it keeps my lips moisturized and smooth. It is also made out of natural ingredients which is always a plus.

That concludes this month’s monthly favorites! What have you been loving this month? Have you tried any of these products? Comment and let me know!

Monthly Favorites: August 2014

IMG_20140830_110942834

August went by way too fast! I can’t honestly believe it is September 1st today (or September 5th, when I post this). August was a busy month for me, especially with starting a new job. I know I haven’t been blogging much lately, so why not come back with a monthly favorites post!

BEAUTY FAVORITES

1) Lorac Pro 2 Palette
When I first saw that Lorac was coming out with a new palette I wasn’t quite sure on if I would want to pick it up or not. I do have the original palette which I do love, but I always forget about using that palette. Well with seeing reviews and some beauty blogger’s creations with this palette, I decided to pick it up with my 20% coupon. I really love the cool tone hues in it and of course the fun colors included. The packaging is the same as the original palette, except this one is gray. The palette is very thin and sleek with a magnetic closure and a mirror as well. The shadows are nice and soft, but powdery. So all you need is a light touch otherwise your palette will be a mess. But, that doesn’t bother me too much because I love how soft they are.

IMG_20140830_111340564

2) Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette
Another palette in my monthly favorites! Well…why not? I do love myself some eye-shadow palettes. Too Faced came out with a couple new palettes for the Fall collection, but I decided on this one. This palette is a Sephora exclusive, whereas the Country and Rock & Roll palettes are Ulta exculsives. There was just something about the colors in this palette that made me grab it off the shelf at Sephora. Too Faced is one of my favorite makeup brands, and I feel like this palette doesn’t disappoint. I do wish that Kitty Glitter was more pigmented, but in reality I think it completes the palette as a nice shimmer shade. I used the pink shades in the palette for a nice pink look and then added kitty glitter for some extra shimmer.  With Too Faced shadows once you get past the first layer the shades become more pigmented, especially with Kitty Glitter. In the picture below I am wearing Kitty Glitter to add some extra shimmer.

3) Glo~Minerals Water Resistant Mascara
I have a love-hate relationship with mascara! I seem to be never satisfied with mascara and end up trying new ones all the time. I don’t understand the hype of Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara or Benefit They’re Real mascara. I just hate the application process whether it be too wet, too dry, too clumpy, too sticky, etc. Also, it is hard to find a mascara that keeps my stick straight lashes curled. Also, I like to use more natural nourishing mascaras. A lot of the drug store mascaras and even a lot of the high end mascaras use tar in their formula. I hate the feeling of lashes not feeling like lashes after application. I don’t need my lashes to feel/look like a statue because I decided to coat some tar on them. That is not good for lashes! Sorry end of rant! My salon started carrying this Glo Minerals brand and she recommended that I try this mascara after hearing about my love-hate relationship with mascara. This mascara does not have tar in it so I was happy to hear that. The mascara brush is amazing and so easy to use! I can use the brush vertical and horizontally and coat the lashes. No clumps! No spidery looking lashes either. The formula has the perfect wetness needed. I hate those super wet formulas where it takes 10 millions years to dry! Not for me! Also, my lashes feel like lashes. I have been really impressed with this mascara. I am wearing this mascara in the picture above.

IMG_20140830_111319219_HDR

4) Naked 3 Dual Ended Eyeliner Pencil
I love my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette quite a bit! I am always grabbing for it in my makeup collection. When I saw they had a dual sided 24/7 glide on eye pencil dedicated toward the Naked 3, I knew I needed to pick it up. It comes with the shades Darkside and Blackheart. I especially love the Blackheart shade because I love the red shimmer in it. Urban Decay’s eyeliner pencils are my favorite out of all the brands that I have tried. Sure, I have to sharpen them, but no big deal. I just love the creaminess of them and how easy they are to use. I am always grabbing for this eyeliner especially when I use my Naked 3.

IMG_20140830_111455763

5) Glo Minerals Shimmer Brick in Luster and Texture Brush
I also got this shimmer brick and brush at my local salon. I just wanted something that would give me a natural glow during the summer months. I was recommended by the Glo-Minerals rep to try this. I love it! I can just slightly dust it onto my cheeks and it gives me a healthy glow. It comes with 4 shades in the pan, but I just swirl all 4 shades together with the texture brush. This brush is super soft and it works really well with the application process. I have a Sigma brush like this, but I like this one quite a bit more. It is dense, but not too dense. With that being said, it picks up the perfect amount of product.

IMG_20140830_111103422_HDR

6) Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Rollerball
I have always wanted a full sized (meaning not a rollerball) Marc Jacobs perfume, but I always say no because of the price tag! I love the packaging on his perfumes! Every single one! Especially his newest ones: Daisy Dream, Honey, and Dot. This is my first rollerball from Marc Jacobs as well. I just loved this scent, but couldn’t reason spending the price tag for the full perfume right now. It is nice because I can take it with me because it is travel friendly. I can’t describe the scent very well, but it is very clean and floral smelling. Just go into Sephora or Ulta and see if you like it because everybody has different opinions. But, I quite like it. 🙂 Also, my cousin was here this weekend and she had a rollerball in Honey and omg…amazing! I think that may be the one I get when I get a full sized perfume because the packaging is ADORABLE!

LIFESTYLE FAVORITES (Movies, Books, Games, and Food)

IMG_20140830_111801110

1) The Amazing Spiderman 2
I ❤ Spiderman. This is honestly my favorite out of all the Spiderman movies (including the originals as well). I think that the cast did an amazing job. The story line kept my attention.

2) The Count of Monte Cristo
This is not necessarily a monthly favorite, but my all time favorite movie. I just wanted to share it with you all because you NEED to watch it. It is a little slow in the beginning, but believe me it is amazing. There are many themes in the storyline: friendship, love, betrayal, and revenge.  This is based off of a book written by Alexandre Dumas in 1844. Trust me, go watch it.

3) Aladdin
Aladdin is a good childhood memory of mine. I always loved that movie. I still do! I may be 25, but there is always some room for Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Abu, and of course Rajah in my life. Even before hearing that Robin Williams died, I had watched this a few days prior. Genie is one of my favorite characters in this movie. Robin Williams will be missed.

4) Mario Kart 8
My niece recently came over and we had fun playing this game. I am a big Nintendo fan and one of my favorite games for any Nintendo game system has been Mario Kart. My niece had so much fun playing this game with me.

5) If I Stay Book and Movie
I started this book and was about halfway through it when my friend and I went to the movie. I finished the book afterwards. It was an easy read. Sure, the movie was a little predictable, but it was still a good movie.  Oh how I wish that I could play the cello like that because that was pretty amazing. This book makes a person think about life and how fast it can be changed. Well, it sure made me think about it. Every second in life is important and it is important not to take that for granted. Right now I am reading the second book, “Where She Went.”

6) Trader Joes Chocolate Covered Powerberries
Usually I hate dark chocolate, but in these I love it! They’re sweetened with natural fruit juices such as: acai, pomegranate, blueberry, and cranberry juices. Then they’re covered with smooth dark chocolate. All I can say is….yum!

7) Young & Hungry

I love love love love this show! It makes me laugh! I love those type of shows. This show is aired on ABC Family. The characters in it are awesome together and I just love it.

That concludes this month’s monthly favorites! Comment and let  me know if you have tried any of the products mentioned or if you watch any of the movies or shows I mention. Also, don’t forget to check out the movie “The Count of Monte Cristo.” Hope you all had a wonderful August and have a wonderful September.

Monthly Favorites: July 2014

IMG_20140723_181905226

Can it really be time for JULY of 2014 Favorites?!? Next month is August of 2014?!? Really?!! Didn’t we just celebrate News Years of maybe….2010 or 2007?!? I just want to slow down time because I am enjoying my summer and with it being August soon that means Fall is around the corner.

I have been loving quite a few things this month, but I decided on these 6 lovely products! Hope you enjoy!

1) INSTAIN Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush in Argyle
If you have been following me on Instagram you may have seen a photo of my haul from The Balm. I was visiting my cousin in South Dakota and we were at Kohls and my jaw dropped because I didn’t know that Kohls carried The Balm. I have only gotten The Balm products online so I was excited to be able to see them in person. I decided on this lovely blush (also got a nail polish and a lip-gloss) and I am glad that I decided to pick it up because it is a gorgeous light pink shade. The Balm blushes are super pigmented and blendable. Also, isn’t the packaging just amazing?

2) tarte Amazonian clay full coverage airbrush foundation in light beige and airbuki bamboo powder foundation brush

I have been using this foundation since it came out. This was actually my first foundation that I ever bought. True story. I never wore foundation previous to that. But, then again I didn’t get into makeup until around age 21. But, as I am getting older my face has some redness. It covers my redness up without any issue and gives me a flawless finish. After using this for awhile, I decided that I wanted to try a liquid foundation…well because…I have never tried one before. I have used it for awhile and do like that one too. But, I just missed my powder foundation. I recently repurchased this foundation at a recent Ulta haul and have been loving it once again! The application is super easy, especially with the airbuki brush, which came out at the same time as the foundation. The brush fits perfectly in the foundation’s packaging. There is a mesh cover that I press my brush against to get the perfect amount of foundation on my brush. Also, when the foundation cover is on the product stays put instead of spilling all over due to its design. I also love tarte because they’re more natural and are cruelty free. My mom used to use Clinique’s foundation. I even got her to switch to this and she has noticed a huge difference with her oily skin. So yes, this foundation is both good for dry to oily skin, and of course normal skin.

3) tarte colored clay CC primer in light

Dark circles have been known to be genetic, so I probably can never get them to go away fully. Thanks family! My alternating shifts don’t help matters either, so I am always trying to find the next big thing to help cover up those panda eyes. When I was at Ulta with my cousin, she recommended that I try this product. She stated that it helps her with her dark circles. I am really glad that I gave this product a go because I love it! I just apply this over my under-eyes and blend before adding any foundation. I also do add some concealer as well, but this primer has really helped cover up those unwanted dark circles. The product itself is very creamy and easy to blend into the skin. The only thing is that it was quite pricey, but tarte in itself is quite pricey.

4) The Balm Read my Lips Lip Gloss in the shade Zaap!

Here is that lip-gloss that I got in my The Balm haul from Kohl’s. I am quite impressed with this lovely lip-gloss. It has to probably be one of my favorites I’ve ever tried. It is creamy, pigmented, but not sticky. It does need to be reapplied throughout the day, but that doesn’t bother me. I would rather have to reapply than to have it be sticky. The more sticky a lip gloss is, the more long lasting. This shade is gorgeous! It can be applied more sheer to the lips or it can be applied more opaque as well. This lip-gloss does have a pleasant fruity scent. I do like the packaging. I wish I had a picture of the outer box that it came in because The Balm has amazing packaging. Overall, I am quite impressed with this lip-gloss and want to try more colors from this collection.

5) Sleek i-Divine Garden of Eden Palette

I got this palette from Jacquelyn from The Little Scottish Corner in our beauty swap. I have been really loving this Sleek palette this month because green is one of my favorite colors.  Purple is my all time favorite color and a few pinkish-purple shades are included in this palette as well. This palette is just gorgeous and it reminds me of nature and being outside. This palette comes with both shimmery and matte shades. I love the shimmery shades quite a bit. They’re super pigmented and blendable. I plan on doing a more detailed review coming soon!

PicMonkey Collage 2

Here is an Instagram photo of a look that I created using this palette…

6) Sephora and Pantone Universe Rush Luster Cheek Sweep

I saw this on clearance at Sephora recently. Once again, I blame Coffee Break with Dani on YouTube for this purchase because she raved about it. I can totally understand why. These are honestly the softest blushes I have ever had the chance of trying out. They’re amazingly pigmented, the swatches down below are just one swipe of the finger. They’re so buttery soft and just plain right amazing. I really enjoy the first shade, the third shade in the palette is pretty bold so I haven’t given that shade a chance quite yet. But, the first blush shade is GORGEOUS and it is a favorite of mine.

Lancaster Vanilla and Caramel Soft Cremes

I recently saw these at Target and decided to give them a try. I am so glad that I decided to pick them up because they’re so delicious! They are super soft and just amazing! I recommend trying them if you’re a fan of caramels.

That concludes July’s monthly favorites! Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these items. What did you think of the items I included in my favorites! Comment and let me know! I love hearing from you!

New Mac Collection Alert: The Simpsons

Growing up with only brothers, I sure watched a lot of The Simpsons. To celebrate their 25th Anniversary, Mac Cosmetics is coming out with a Marge Simpson themed collection. I honestly only have 2 items from Mac Cosmetics (Mac Fix + and a lipstick from the Alluring Aquatic Collection), so I don’t know much about the brand. I do know that they’re always coming out with new collections all the time. But, this collection really excites me. 😀 I will defiantly be checking it out when it officially comes out! I know I want the blush and a lip-gloss out of the collection. I also included a YouTube video from aLoveTart explaining more about this exciting collection. Comment and let me know what you think of this collection. Do you watch The Simpsons? What items from the collection do you want?

Sigma Beauty Smoke Screen Palette Review

eye shadow Sigma Beauty is well known for its makeup brushes, but not as commonly known for their makeup line in the beauty world. Although, I think that Sigma Beauty is getting more and more into the makeup world with them bringing out more and more palettes, blushes, lip-glosses, and even lately gel eyeliners. I was quite impressed with their previous palette which is called, Warm Neutrals,  so when they came out with this Smoke Screen palette, I knew I had to pick it up. If you’re interested on my review of the Warm Neutrals palette you can find that here. Both palettes are still available online and at Sigma Beauty. Sigma Beauty’s flagship store is at Mall of America so I always have to stop in whenever I am at MOA.

What Sigma Beauty says about this palette, “The Sigma Beauty Smoke Screen Eye Shadow Palette features 12 different shades and finishes with cool undertones, perfect that give the ability to transform your look from desk to dancing. Each shade is represented by sophisticated neutrals to bold brights offset by dark, dusty hues. Paraben-free.” More information found here

Price: $39.00

PACKAGING

The Smoke Screen palette comes with the same look and feel as the Warm Neutrals palette. It comes with an outer white sleeve that I already threw away. I don’t see a point in keeping it.

IMG_1304

Here is the back of the outer sleeve showing the colors shades, the ingredients, and amount of product included.

IMG_1305

The actual palette itself is nice and sturdy. I really like the sleek look of it. The Sigma logo makes it look nice and high quality. The palette does have a magnetic closure.

IMG_1306

This is what the back of the palette looks like. It shows the shades, amount of product, and that it was made in China.

IMG_1312

It comes with a nice sized mirror, but the mirror does not stay up by itself.

IMG_1307

Overall, I am quite impressed with the packaging. I do like that they went with the same packaging look as with the Warm Neutrals palette.

THE EYE SHADOWS

This palette has an amazing array of colors and finishes. I do not have any other palettes quite like this. This palette is perfect for creating smokey eye looks. They also included some fun shades like the lavender shade and of course the amazing blue shade. Nobody says that smokey eyes can’t be fun! 😀 Each shadow is imprinted with Sigma Beauty which I think is cool, but over time that disappears.

FORMULA & MY THOUGHTS I love this palette because I find it to be very unique. It has quite a few different shades that I have never seen in other palettes. Some of my favorites shades include: nebula, opulent, svelte, and rave. Nebula is pretty amazing and I loved using it in my look down below. Also, I think that Svelte is super unique with its olive tones. The formula is just like the Warm Neutrals one. I feel like they have improved their formula quite a bit compared to some previous palettes of theirs. The shadows are very easy to work with. They’re very pigmented, blendable, and soft. They’re aren’t powdery which is nice, but some of the glittery shades have a little fall-out. Pros

  • Highly pigmented
  • Easy to work with
  • Sturdy packaging
  • Unique and fun shades
  • Paraben free!

Cons

  • Price, although I don’t personally think it is all that bad compared to other palettes out on the market.
  • Mirror doesn’t stand up
  • Glittery shades have some fall-out
  • Not available in a lot of stores so hard to find unless purchasing online.

FOTDs

With that, I hope that you enjoyed this post! Do you have this palette? What do you think of it? Comment and let me know if you enjoy my palette reviews and what palette review you would like to see next. Hope you all have a wonderful day and weekend!

June 2014 Favorites!

IMG_20140701_144147546

I can’t believe June is already over! Now that it is July, that means more than half of 2014 is over. Wow, life goes fast! That is why we should embrace each and every day! 🙂 It is now time for my monthly favorites! I had a lot of new found loves and some re-experienced loves this month.

SKINCARE & MAKEUP

1) Glo-Minerals The Cherry Balm

IMG_20140701_144542575

My mom won this cherry chapstick at the Glo Minerals makeup presentation/class that my local salon put on. Lucky her! Since she loves it so much, I decided to pick one up for myself. I love love love love this stuff! It feels amazing on the lips. It smells like amazing cherries! It has helped my super dry lips quite a bit. This may be well on its way to becoming a holy grail! It is also natural and cruelty free! It is also quite a large tube compared to other chapsticks at 0.65 oz. Also, it is nice that it has SPF in it, especially during the summer months.

2) Naked 3

IMG_20140701_144442603

I used this palette quite a bit this month because it went with a lot of my outfits. I just kept reaching for it over and over. This palette was in my monthly favorites a couple months back and it is back for another monthly favorites! I just love the colors. One of my favorite shades is Buzz which is the 5th shade in.

3) Color Tattoos by Maybelline in Sunwashed Sky and Shimmering Sea

IMG_20140701_144315014

These 2 color tattoos are my first and only color tattoos that I own. I saw them at Walgreen’s when I was shopping for my box swap. I picked the Shimmering Sea one up for her as well. I just think that the shades are very unique, especially the Shimmering Sea one. It is a greenish-gold shade. I think that it looks amazing under a neutral eye look and it helps give it a different look in the end. The Sunwashed Sky shade is gorgeous as well and more of a blue-purplish shade. Although, I would have to say the Shimmering Sea shade is my favorite out of the two.

4) Almond Hand & Nail Cream from The Body Shop

IMG_20140701_144424410

I got this in my most recent haul from The Body Shop at the Mall of America. The Body Shop is very new to me, so I thought that I would try this cream out. So far I am loving it. The scent is nice and subtle. The formula is moisturizing. It is not greasy at all which is a big pro! Overall, I am quite impressed!

5) Glo Minerals Brush Cleaner

IMG_20140701_144608097

I’ll be honest and tell you that I absolutely hate washing my makeup brushes! It is probably the most annoying and time consuming thing about makeup. I got this at my makeup presentation and I am glad I did. It is really nice to be able to quickly clean my makeup brushes. I still do a deep cleaning with soap and water, but I feel better now that I have included this in the health of my brushes. It does seem to clean them really well and it sanitizes the brushes as well because of the alcohol content in it.

6) No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara

IMG_20140701_144500490

Target recently started carrying some Boots products and I decided to try out this No7 mascara. My eyelashes are straight and don’t like to curl. The wand does have a nice curve to it and surprisingly it does help them curl. It doesn’t necessarily stay curled all day, but I have not met a mascara that keeps my lashes curled all day. Something I love about this mascara is that my lashes feel like lashes and feel soft with it applied compared to it being hard and icky feeling.

FASHION

1) My yellow dress
This is the yellow dress that I wore to my friend’s wedding! I got it from JcPenney and I just think that it is a perfect summer dress.

2) My 1960s outfit!
I was part of a collaboration, “Makeup Through the Ages.” I did my makeup look and fashion look for the 1960s. This was definately a monthly favorite because I had a lot of fun with this collaboration! If you haven’t checked out our collaboration, then I recommend that you do!

LIFESTYLE FAVORITES

1) Maleficent

I am a huge Disney fan! With that being said, I was super excited to see this movie! I thought that it was amazing and I also thought that Angelina Jolie was PERFECT for this role. I have a lot more respect for her after this role as an actress. I just loved the different take on the popular story compared to the usual Disney’s Sleeping Beauty story. Also, Maleficent had some amazing cheek bones in this movie. I know Angelina Jolie had to spend numerous hours in the makeup chair, but coming from a makeup enthusiast’s stand point: it was pretty amazing!

2) The Fault In Our Stars Movie and Book

Both the book and the movie are in my monthly favorites this month! I read a part of the book and then I saw the movie, then I finished the book. It is such a sad story, but very moving. I saw the movie twice in theaters (once with a friend and the other with my mum) and I cried both times. I knew a classmate from high school that died of cancer and it made me think a lot of him. He was way too young to die. Sometimes life is hard to understand why certain things happen to certain people, but nobody said life was easy.

3) Candy!
Yes, I had to include this because I have been enjoying my candy from Jacquelyn from The Little Scottish Corner! I would have to say my favorite is the Percy Pigs. There is just something about them that I love! I wish we had them in the USA, but that it okay because it is a nice little treat. My box of candy is shown in the photo above.

4) Banana Boat Soothing Aloe After Sun
I got sunburned this month.  So using this feels very nice on my sunburned skin. I do like using the gel over the lotion because I think that it is more beneficial.

5) Walking the dogs!
It was nice to be able to walk the dogs this month! Finally we had some nice weather! Mirya and Maddie are both fans of going on walks.

IMG_20140615_201912071

6) Feeding the ducks with my nieces!
I had a lot of fun going to the park and feeding the ducks! They had a lot of fun too!

IMG_20140628_140229627IMG_20140628_135017204

7) The Lego Movie
Having only brothers growing up, I saw quite a bit of Legos. So when the Lego Movie came out, I, of course wanted to see it. It brings back a lot of good childhood memories! Of course the theme song, “Everything is Awesome” gets stuck in my head everytime I see this movie.

8) Chasing Life
This is a new show that I started watching on ABC Family! So far I am loving it! It is about a 24 year old reporter who ends up getting cancer. It is only a few episodes in, but so far it has been really good. Instead of explaining it, just watch the preview that I posted below!

That concludes this monthly favorites post! Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these products or seen any of the movies/shows that I mentioned! Comment down below and let me know! I love hearing from you all!

Beauty Blogger Collaboration: Makeup Through The Ages -1960

1907337_10201859612924643_1540852947928680308_n

Do you see the title of this blog collaboration?!?! I am beyond ecstatic to be doing this wonderful “Makeup Through the Ages” post with a bunch of other amazing beauty bloggers from all over the world! Awhile back I had asked my followers to take part in this awesome collaboration with me!  🙂 As you may know, makeup has changed quite a bit throughout time. Our blog collaboration will take our readers on a journey through the ages starting with Egyptians, skipping numerous years, then the roaring 1920s to present day, and then of course futuristic! I can’t wait to see what all the other ladies came up with!

My Decade

Untitled

I picked the 1960s for a couple of reasons! I love the music! I am a big classic rock fan. I love the song, “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. I posted a YouTube video just in case you have never heard of it! I, of course, also loved THE BEATLES! They’re one of my favorite bands!

A Little History Lesson!

1960 JFK (John F. Kennedy) beats Richard Nixon in the presidential election to become the 35th US President. The book “To Kill a Mockingbird” was published.
1961 “West Side Story” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” comes to the big screen.
1962 Marilyn Monroe dies of an overdose. World wide television and cable became a reality. Eleanor Roosevelt dies. My amazing mum is born!
1963 The Beatles take Britain by storm. JFK is assassinated. My amazing dad is born!
1964 Bob Dylan becomes popular. Color television! The first primetime Soap Opera “Peyton Place” appears on television. Martin Luther King Jr. gets the Nobel Peace Prize.
1965 “The Sound of Music” premieres. Martin Luther King Jr. works on the Voting Rights Act.
1966 The first “Star Trek” episode aires. Walt Disney dies.
1967 PBS is created. “The Jungle Book” comes out.
1968 “60 Minutes” first airs. The movie rating system starts (PG, PG-13, Rated R, etc.) Martin Luther King Jr. dies.
1969 “Sesame Street” was born. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the moon.

Information found here and here.

The 1960s Beauty Trends

I did do some research online, but I got most of my information from my grandparents who grew up in the 1960s.

  • Dramatic makeup looks.
  • Pedal Pushers! Which in today’s age are known as capris.
  • The mini skirt makes its way into fashion!
  • Big Hair!!!! Lots of volume! Remember the movie “Hairspray” and their crazy volume?!? That takes place in the 1960s.
  • A lot of black liner!
  • Cut creases (mostly used black)
  • Nude lips also became popular in the 1960s. But, my grandma said that in the early 1960s, red lips were super popular!
  • Colorful eye looks!
  • Thick full lashes on both the bottom and top as worn by Twiggy in the 1960s.
  • The Nurses hat! (So glad I don’t have to wear that in my nursing career)!

MAKEUP

When I first decided I was going to do the decade of the 1960s, I of course, wanted to do a blue eye-shadow look because it just screams the 1960s in my opinion. When I was talking to my grandmas, they both said blue eye-shadow was the craze. I have never done a cut crease, so my look is going to be a little softer than the Twiggy version of a cut crease with an intense black line.

IMG_20140615_173912281

I love my Nyx Jumbo pencil in milk because it definitely helps eyeshadows pop, especially a blue shade. I layered that on top of my Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer. The white base does not need to be perfect because, well, it will be turning blue here soon…

primer

I recently got the Mac Fix+ because I visited my first ever Mac store and felt like this was a good purchase. Basically, I sprayed my eyeshadow brush with this Mac Fix+ to moisten it and that helped make the shadow more pigmented and  give it a more harsh look.

perfect duo

There I am adding the crazy blue shadow single which is from the amazing brand of Urban Decay and in the shade Peace. I recently got a new makeup mirror, as you can see in the photo, and I love it! I will be doing a post on that sometime soon.

blue shadow

I never ever wear winged eyeliner, so I’ll be honest, this was really new to me. Therefore, ….. TAPE! I applied tape so I would get it even. Placement of the winged eyeliner is supposed to follow the bottom lash line into a wing. But, before you add fresh tape onto your poor little delicate under eyes, put it on your hand first to take away some of the stickiness. I used 2 different eyeliners for this look. The first one I used is by Collection and it is their 24 hour felt tip eyeliner. I used that along the lashline and the wing (basically the whole eyeliner part). The second eyeliner was just a little blacker, so I added that eyeliner on top of the one from Collection. That eyeliner is from The Balm and it is their Schwing liquid eyeliner.

eyeliner

This was probably the hardest part of the look. Making it look like a “cut crease.” As you can see in the photo, I just took the shade Blackout and applied it in the crease. I did blend it a little bit so it isn’t quite the same as Twiggy. But, you get the point. I also applied some Blackout shadow under my lash line as well.

adding in the black

Time for mascara! I decided to try the Rimmel London Scandaleyes Retro Glam mascara. I really wanted dark voluminous lashes and I didn’t want to have to put fakes ones on, so this was the next best thing.

macara

I wanted to add a little shimmer to my look, therefore, The Balm’s Overshadow in Work is OverRated comes to the stage.

finishing touch

Apparently in the 1960’s a lot of people would shave off their eyebrows and draw them on. They did draw them in on the heavier side and more of a straight line. Yeah, I’m not going to do that.

brows

I used the products that I usually use from day to day. In the 1960s they liked more of a matte over a dewy finish. I used Porefessional from Benefit for a primer. Then, my tarte Amazonian clay foundation in Light Sand. Finally, I finished off with my bareMinerals Mineral Veil powder.

face

Time for some bronzer, highlighter, and some blush. I hardly ever wear bronzer, ever! But, I decided to use my Pur Minerals Mineral Glow. The highlighter I used is the famous Mary-Lou Manizer from The Balm. In the 1960s they wore a lot of coral blush. Hence, I thought that my Sleek blush in the shade coral would be perfect to add to this look.

bronzer

I really wish that I would have worn a nude lipstick, because I have the perfect one. I did wear a red lipstick because my grandma had said that in the early 1960s, red was popular and that during that time they came out with more shades: nudes, pinks, etc. I just finally had a reason to wear a red lipstick. I used my Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in the shade Theodora. I got it in my Theodora palette from The Great and Powerful Oz.

HAIR

1) In the 1960s, they wore a lot of hair accessories. So I decided to use my headband (from Maurices) for some extra 1960s style. I just parted my hair on the side and put the headband into place. Then I combed back the rest of the hair that was behind the headband.
2) Since they ratted their hair a lot to get extreme volume I decided to try this voluminizing powder from Not Your Mothers. It did work pretty well, because I was able to comb through my ratted hair with no difficulty. Do not try ratting your hair without using a powder like this, otherwise it will be a snarly mess.
3) After applying the powder in the roots, I took a comb and started ratting.
4) For some extra volume I decided to have a little mini bun that the ratted hair from step 3 will cover.
5) I just continued to rat all my hair around the headband, until it looked something like this…
6) Pin back the hair with a bobby pin making sure to cover the bun. I did have a flower clip that I placed over the bobby pins. You will be able to see it in the photos below.

THE COMPLETED LOOK

This is my completed look. I really like that it looks very 1960s. Comment if you agree?!? This eye look is obviously not an everyday look, but they sure loved their blue eyeshadow back then.

completed makeup

FASHION

This is probably where I had the most fun with this collaboration. Picking out my outfit!! I feel like the neckline of the shirt I’m wearing is perfect! In the 1960s they wore a lot of rounded collar necklines, whether it be a shirt or a dress, that style was in. It is also a perfect blue shade! I of course spotted this shirt at Maurices. No surprise there! My pedal pushers or capris (whatever you prefer to call them) are also from Maurices. They didn’t usually wear blue jean pedal pushers (like in today’s age), but more khaki or colorful ones instead. My black flats I have had forever, but I’m 99.9% sure I got them at Famous Footwear. My necklace I felt was very fitting for this decade with the silver hoops. That is from the jewelry company, “Premier Designs.” Both my earrings and bracelet are from Maurices. They would wear big hoop earrings, but this was the most dangly earring I had.

SOME SHIBA INU LOVE…
Since hardly anybody has heard of a Shiba Inu in today’s age, I’m sure Shiba Inus were quite rare then. But, that didn’t stop me from taking some photos with my pup Mirya! She is so photogenic!

shiba

That concludes this post! I hope that you enjoyed reading it. Let me know what you think of my makeup, hair, and outfit. I had a lot of fun doing this. Doing 1960s makeup and hair isn’t the easiest, so I am glad that I don’t have to rat my hair like they did back in the day. Also, so glad that I don’t have to wear those white nurses hats. Make sure to check out all the other lovely ladies’ posts that are part of this.

My US/UK Box Swap with The Little Scottish Corner!

Jacquelyn from the amazing blog, “The Little Scottish Corner” and I decided that we would do a box swap. We had been talking about doing one for awhile and the time has finally come. It of course, takes forever to send international packages, but it actually came faster than I expected. I hate the wait and the agony on wondering if the contents sent will make it over the ocean without being broken by the postal service. Also, make sure to check out her blog here and check out all the items that I sent her!

Yay! Bubble wrap! Thankfully, both our packages made it to each other in one piece. 😀

IMG_20140613_123316910

My initial reaction! :O Jacquelyn sure got me a lot of candy! She must know that I have a sweet tooth!

IMG_20140613_123406053

CANDY

Aren’t you just mesmerized by this picture?!? So many yummy goodies! I got quite a variety here. She sent me a bunch of amazing deliciousness from: Cadbury, Throntons, Green & Blacks, Hotel Chocolat, M&S, and many more. I will be doing a review on all these goodies once I eat them all up. I really wish that we had Percy Pigs in the US, they’re so yummy. Jacquelyn even got me the panda version of Percy Pigs because she knows how much I love pandas. 🙂

IMG_20140613_123713677

Jacquelyn sure took the time to individually wrap each item in adorable wrapping paper. Also, more bubble wrap. 😀

MAKEUP

Palettes

If you have been following my blog, you know that I love makeup palettes. Eyeshadow is my favorite makeup item and I love playing with the variety of colors and finishes. I was really excited to see a palette from Barry M because I hear a lot of good things about this brand. This smokey palette is called Smokin’ Hot Shadow & Blush Palette. Jacquelyn stated she wanted to include something for all seasons. 🙂 The second palette I got was from the new makeup brand called Makeup Revolution. Jacquelyn says that this is a new brand sold in the UK. This palette has an amazing array of colors, and I can’t wait to use it.  My last box swap that I did was with Stephanie Wright here on WordPress and she sent me a Sleek palette as well. I requested another Sleek palette in my box swap with Jacquelyn and she got me the Garden of Eden, which is gorgeous!!!

IMG_20140613_142858108

I, of course, will be doing reviews on these lovelies!

IMG_20140613_143346910

Blushers

In the UK, they call them blushers instead of blush, which I find rather intriguing.  I got a Makeup Revolution blusher in a gorgeous pinky shade called Wow! Also, a blush BY 3 by the brand Sleek in Pumpkin. I have a coral blusher from Sleek that I adore that I got from Effie, and I was super stoked to get this blush BY 3 palette from Jacquelyn.

IMG_20140613_143446018 IMG_20140613_143528035

Lipies!

I was super excited to receive something from MUA, because I have seen many posts reviewing this brand. I got a MUA Power Pout Colour Intense Tint & Balm in Broken Hearted. These remind of the Clinique and Revlon chubby sticks. I really do enjoy chubby sticks because I think that they’re easier to apply than a lipstick. I also got a Makeup Revolution lipstick in the shade Encore.

IMG_20140613_143825078 IMG_20140613_143852650

More Makeup Goodies…

I was excited to receive the Makeup Revolution Awesome Metals Foil Finish in Emerald Goddess because these remind me of the Stila foil finish metals. Stila charges an arm and a leg for their foil finish metal eyeshadows, so I have never tried those out. So these are a lot cheaper and I can’t wait to try them out. I do love the color green Jacquelyn, so no worries! I also got the Makeup Revolution Pure Pigment in Rivalry which is a gorgeous green shade. Since I have never really tried either one of these kinds of products before, it will be a makeup adventure that I look forward to checking out.

IMG_20140613_144415986_HDR

I was excited to receive another shade of the Work the Colour Eyeshadow Pencil by Collection. I got the shade Vanilla Sky, which is very pretty and will make for a great base. I have the color Vintage Blush as well from my box swap with Effie.

IMG_20140613_144337036

This eyeliner pencil by MUA in Turquoise will be a fun summery shade. I will have to use this fun shade for a pop of color. I really like that it has a built in sharpener as well. 🙂

IMG_20140613_181928526

Another item I got is from Makeup Revolution and it is The ONE Concealer. This concealer reminds me a lot of the one from Benefit with the concealer in the middle surrounded by a hydration part. My under eyes get dry so I was excited to receive this. 🙂

IMG_20140613_193430103

I suffer from lashes that don’t like to curl, so I was super excited to try out this doll’d UP mascara by Seventeen. It promises to hold up to a 24 hour curl. I will put this mascara to the test! Probably not all 24 hours. The packaging is adorable!

IMG_20140616_161724888[1]

SKINCARE & HAIR

I got 2 items from the brand Sanctuary Spa which I can’t wait to use. The Intensive Shine Hair Butter looks amazing and I am really excited to try it out because my hair has been dry lately. Also, I am excited to try the salt scrub, because working as a nurse, I get a lot of dead skin on my hands, so this will hopefully  make them nice and smooth.

IMG_20140613_195244530

This is a homemade soap from Jacquelyn that she made with her mum. I thought it was super sweet of her to send along in our box swap because homemade things are always the best. I did read her post about this as well. It does smell lovely and smells very natural as well.

IMG_20140613_193148468

Oh how sweet of Jacquelyn to think of my hands. I can’t wait to try out this tea tree & peppermint deep moisturising hand pack. This sound lovely! Also, an Argan Oil deep moisturising  foot pack! 🙂 My heels always get so dry with working on my feet all the time at work. I am super ecstatic to try these out!

IMG_20140613_143932848

Yay a nail cream! I got the Elemis Sp@ home nail and hand cream. Anything to help my nails! They’re so fragile from all the constant hand washing at work. My hands get super dry as well so I look forward to using this as a hand cream as well. Jacquelyn states that it is used in a lot of spas. Also, she sent me an eye cream by Vitamin E Skin Care. Can’t wait to try this out as well because I always have a hard time finding an eye cream that is actually worthwhile.

IMG_20140613_144318332

This Apricot Exfoliating Mask looks amazing. Jacquelyn says that this is one of her favorite face masks so I can’t wait to try it out. I can’t wait to open it up and smell the scent of apricots.

IMG_20140613_144117600

NAILS

How sweet of Jacquelyn!! She said that since I was close to my nieces that I could use these Nail Rock designs from Frou Frou on their nails. How cute!!! It comes with a bunch of different little adorable bears.

IMG_20140613_143912052

A LITTLE EXTRA… Look at the adorable cat key chain and the cute little lion eraser. So cute!

IMG_20140613_201730069

My explanation letter of all the products included! Such cute stationary! 🙂

IMG_20140613_130514674

Thank you so much Jacquelyn for all the amazing products that you sent me! I had so much fun doing this box swap with you! It was a lot of fun picking out each individual item to send you.  🙂 I so far have tried most of the makeup products sent and have a ton more items left to try! I will be posting reviews off and on from this box swap! Comment and let me know what you would like me to review first. Once again, thanks Jacquelyn for all the wonderful goodies! Day 11: April 2014 Beauty Box 5 Shades of Beauty

IMG_1740

Time for another Beauty Box 5! This little turquoise box showed up in my mailbox on Wednesday and I of course couldn’t wait to rip into it. If you don’t know what BB5 is, it is a $12 a month subscription box that sends 5 samples of makeup, skincare, or any beauty type product. I have had 2 really bad boxes (my first 2) with tons of misses from BB5. I have been tempted to cancel, although I really did like last month’s box. With that, I had higher hopes for this box. I was thinking that it would be makeup based, since last month was mostly skincare. You can find more information on their box here.

Monthly Theme

This month’s theme is Shades of Beauty. It talks about taking time for yourself by enjoying your mornings and doing a little leisurely layering.

A Little Social Networking….

My Description Card

I really like that BB5 includes this description card. That has always been something that I haven’t liked about Ipsy.

IMG_1742

My 5 Items

1) Bh Cosmetics California Collection Eyeshadow Palette Retail: $18.95 16 Eyeshadows/4 Face Powders
I was really disappointed with receiving this product. Nothing against BB5 or Bh Cosmetics with sending this out, but I already received this exact trio in an previous Ipsy bag. I do have a full sized San Francisco palette from this collection and honestly I hardly ever grab for that palette. I even featured it on my Perfect Palette Tag with it being the Biggest Regret. If you’re interested in seeing some of my palette collection you can check that tag out here. Now, I don’t want you thinking I’m hating on Bh Cosmetics because I do have some of their palettes that I love such as: Galaxy Chic and Take Me to Brazil. You can find my Galaxy Chic review here. Bh Cosmetics has nice affordable makeup products and I think they’re stepping up their game with their newer palettes, especially with packaging. Also, with their pricing, I have never seen a Bh Cosmetic palette full price. They always have sales. The San Francisco palette had the best colors out of the 3 whole sized choices in my opinion, with San Francisco being the most wearable. I would say the others are more for night out wear. I do like the colors that they decided to include in this little trio palette. I would take a picture of mine, but I don’t want to open this one and I’m not sure where mine from my Ipsy bag is at the moment. I might actually include this in my Giveaway as a little extra. Comment down below if you would like me to include this.

2) Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick Retail: $4.99 for 0.12 oz
I am not a person that does bold lips very often, so this product was a little disappointing, yet really fun at the same time. I tend to wear more lip tints and lip glosses than lipsticks, but I am always up for trying new products. I really like that this lipstick is paraben free. I applied this lipstick and at first it was very bold, but as it wore off I liked the color even better. I can’t tell you much for longevity because I tested the color out a hour or so before bed and I ended up wiping it off when I washed all my makeup off. I can tell you that it applied nicely and wasn’t patchy at all.

3) Blum Naturals All Purpose Cleansing Wipes Retail: $2.49 for 30 wipes
Once again, I think of the post that Stephanie Wright wrote about makeup wipes and hoped these didn’t have that icky chemical that she speaks of. Every time I think of makeup wipes I think of that post. Good news Effie there isn’t that chemical: phenoxyethanol. But, it does have Ethyl Alcohol in it. In case you’re interested her post is here. My first thought when I opened these wipes is that they’re very thin and cheap looking. I wasn’t impressed. They do smell good so that is a plus, but still can you see how thin that wipe is??? I used it to wipe off my lipstick swatch and it performed pretty well, but I’m just not big on makeup wipes. They’re also made in China. I do like them when wiping off my swatches off my arm, but that is about it. It is definitely travel friendly and even comes with a clip. Also, these wipes don’t seem to separate from each other meaning that when I would pull a wipe out, they would just keep coming. I ended up having to take the red top off and push some of the wipes back into the container.

PicMonkey Collage 2

4) Jergens Natural Glow 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer Retail: $9.99 4 oz.

I don’t know how I feel about this product because I’m not a fan of these type of self-tanners. But, I will still have to try this out. I got my sample for medium to tan skin tones. I feel like there isn’t much product included to get the whole body evenly. But, once again I’ve never used this type of product. There are 3 packets, 1 for each of the 3 days. I also feel like this color might be a little too dark for me, I am more of a light to medium skin tone. I just think it would look unnatural looking to use that shade. But, oh well! Comment and let me know if you have tried this product or have tried any other self tanners.

IMG_1749

 5) Bonne Bell Lip Definer Retail: $3.95 One Size
Once again, this product disappoints me. I don’t use lip liners ever. I got the color luscious lilac. I also felt like when I swatch this on my arm it was hard to get a nice color. If I would use lip liners, I would rather have a more creamy one. The color is pretty so I give it that. I remember getting lip smackers from this brand as a young girl.

IMG_1755

IMG_1759

Overall, I thought this BB5 was a big disappointment this month. I liked that it was makeup based, but not 1 of the products included got me excited. These products are all forgetful in my mind. If I didn’t already have that little trio from Bh Cosmetics, I might be a little excited over that. The lipstick is probably my favorite product I got this month. All in all, I’m debating on if I want to cancel my Beauty Box 5. I think I will give them 1 more month, if next month’s isn’t better they will chopped off the chopping block. They may have the same fate as which Birchbox had in my life. Here is to hoping my Ipsy Glam bag is more exciting. I just looked at my Glam Room a few minutes ago (which I usually don’t do) and I didn’t get the Benefit Lollitint sample! Of course not! I never get the products that I really want from Ipsy. I will be doing a post once my Ipsy bag comes. Comment and let me know what you thought of these products? Did you think your BB5 was a disappointment or did you like the products included?
