May 2014 Monthly Favorites: Beauty, Fashion, & Lifestyle!

May was sure a busy month! It flew by so fast, that I am still in shock that it is already June! Life has been pretty busy with work and moving out of my house. I have been neglecting the blogging side of things a little bit. 😦 Although, I did start a new blog during that time, so I don’t feel too neglectful! I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to include in my monthly favorites. I loved a lot of things this month! But, I do have quite a few monthly favorites that I want to share with you all! I hope you enjoy! Also, make sure to comment and let me know if you have tried any of these products and what you think of them! I hope you enjoy!

MAKEUP & SKINCARE

IMG_20140605_160059920

Cindy-Lou Manizer from The Balm

What the Balm says, “An all-in-one essential, this smart shadow, beautiful blush and subtle highlighter is tucked inside a go-anywhere compact. The light-reflecting peachy pink hue adds a splash of color to your cheeks and a hint of shimmer to your lids, while illuminating your finest features.” Information found here

IMG_20140602_153927412

I haven’t had this beauty product for that long, but I really do like the shade. It can be used as a highlighter, shimmer, or a shadow. I use mine as a highlighter, it just gives the face a pretty peachy-pink highlight. I love the packaging as well! The Balm always gets an A+ on packaging in my book! I also have the Mary-Lou Manizer version of this, love that one as well. That one is more of a champagne shade. They’re both super pigmented so you only need a little bit!

Setting Brush by Real Techniques

What Real Techniques says, “The key to completing any look with a controlled dusting of powder or highlighter.” More information found here.

IMG_20140602_153943797

This brush goes hand in hand with the monthly favorite described above. I use this brush for highlighting because I think that it is the perfect size. The brush is super soft and easy to use. RT brushes are also cruelty free which is important to me. This brush could also be used for blending out concealer.

The Body Shop Body Butter in Strawberry

What The Body Shop says, “This rich and creamy Body Butter is a feast for the skin. It melts straight in to leave skin feeling soft and smooth. It contains Community Fair Trade shea butter and has a sweet strawberry scent. 24-hour hydration Great for normal to dry skin Sweet strawberry scent.” More information found here

IMG_20140605_232700735

This was my first purchase ever from The Body Shop. I am a HUGE fan of strawberries so I of course had to pick this one up. I actually ordered this mini body butter online so I didn’t get to test it out first. This stuff smells AMAZING! It is like strawberries on steroids! The body butter is nice and creamy and has the perfect thickness. It is perfect for during the day for a quick hand cream and it does help moisturize my hands. I usually use more of a thicker more moisturizing hand cream at night.

Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette

What Sephora says, “An alluring, warm-toned eyeshadow palette with a stunning composition of colors—three large base shades and nine transformative accent hues—for a spectrum of stunning eye looks. ” More information found here

IMG_20140605_160217707

I am in love with this palette! I love all the colors included. The shadows are super pigmented and just gorgeous! I just find it to be a super unique palette, because it includes some shades that I have never seen before. The packaging is amazing and it is very fitting for Kat Von D and her personality. Well, it should be because she drew the palette design. I have 3 Kat Von D items from her line, which are all palettes. So far, I am quite impressed with her makeup line and I’m curious about her other makeup items. What products have you tried from her line?!? I don’t want to give out too much information about this palette. I have a review coming up on this palette and the sister palette Chrysalis, which is gorgeous as well!

Sigma Beauty Single Eye Shadow in Triomphe

What Sigma Beauty says, “The Sigma Beauty Individual Eye Shadow Collection features a versatile assortment of shades and finishes from our best-selling eye shadow palettes. Each eye shadow has a rich pigmentation and long-lasting wear. Mix and match for your favorite colors to create a customized collection.” More information found here

IMG_20140602_153828417

When I was at Mall of America a few months ago, I got this shadow for free with a purchase. I had a hard time deciding what shade to pick out! I decided on the shade Triomphe, which is a duo-chrome pewter. This shade is actually part of the Paris palette. This shade is super gorgeous and I love the duo-chrome finish to it. It is also pigmented and blends easily! This shade is perfect for the outer V and even could be used all over the lid for a more darker look.

Jamberry Nails!!!

This is probably my biggest monthly favorite! I have a love for having something pretty on my nails! Being a nurse my nail polish chips right away with constant hand washing. Meet the company Jamberry Nails! 😀 Basically these are high quality vinyl nail wraps, which is such a smart idea! I have so far applied 2 different Jambicures and so far I love them! They don’t chip! They last a lot longer than any nail polish! My first Jambicure was Chalkboard Hearts and my second Jambicure was Flutter By. Flutter By was a May exculsive, I am glad that I got my hands on a sheet of this adorable butterfly design. I will be doing an actual review on these vinyl nails, so stay tuned for that!

FASHION

I loved this dress from Maurices this month! I paired it with my new madden girl sandals that I got at Famous Footwear! I really like how this outfit turned out. Also, I got the white little cardigan at Maurices as well. Surprise! Love that store!

IMG_20140523_174002506 IMG_20140523_180647

Here is another dress that I got at Maurices! 🙂 I paired it with that same white cardigan. I love this dress and I love the color orange! You can find this dress here.

LIFESTYLE

Movies

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
I really love the new Spider-man movies, along with a bunch of other people. Lol! I really like Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Personally, I think that this Spider-Man film has been the best Spider-Man movie so far (including the Tobey Mcquire ones)! There were funny parts in it and there were sad parts in it as well. Overall, I think that it was really well done. Comment and let me know if you have seen this movie.

Endless Love
Yes, this movie is a chic flick and a little cheesy, but I think it is adorable! There is nothing wrong with watching a “feel good movie.” Not everything has to be blood and gore and guts!

Games

Pikmin 3
Recently I sold my Iphone back to Best Buy in place of a gift card. I ended up getting the Nintendo Wii U. I have always been a fan of Nintendo with Yoshi being a favorite character of mine. It was a super nice deal, I got a lot back for my Iphone! I got this game called Pikmin 3! I actually played the original Pikmin game back in the day on GameCube, with one of my good friends all the time. It is an all time favorite of mine! So fast forward to Pikmin 3, and I still love it! Although, with life being so busy, I haven’t been able to play it much. I figured it would be easier for me just to show you a preview of the game. I know some people probably think it is silly, but I love it! Aren’t the Pikmin adorable?!?

Shows

Revenge
Revenge has had its moments! Honestly, part of this season I wanted to quit watching this show. There was too many characters and I got lost with the story line. But, thankfully I kept watching because it all ended with the season finale! This season finale was intense! I can’t wait to see what happens! Comment and let me know if you watch Revenge.

Dancing with the Stars
I loved watching this show and I think that it was one of this best seasons of DWTS ever! I just think that they had a lot of good celebrities, which kept the show interesting. I watched Meryl & Charlie win the gold at the Olympics, that was a big reason why I watched this season more faithfully. I was happy to see Meryl and Maks win!

MIRYA, MADDIE, & MOLLY MONTHLY FAVORITES

If you want to see my pets monthly favorites then I suggest you check out my pet blog that I recently started called, “The HAPPY PAW Files.” I have a post about their paw approved monthly favorites going up at the same time as this one! I hope you subscribe and show Mirya, Molly, and Maddie some love! You can find that blog post here.

the happy paw files logo

That concludes this monthly favorites post! I hope you enjoyed reading this! Comment and let me know what you thought and if you have tried any of the products mentioned. Also, let me know if you have watched any of the shows or movies, or played Pikmin 3 as well!

Mothers Day Gift Ideas Blog Hop: May 2014

10010433_10202029976286824_117628191271045274_o

Today is the first day of May! That means it is the month that Mother’s Day is part of! I am very big on family, and my mom is one of the most important people to me! Without her, I would not be who I am today! I would not have had the success that I have had in my life, if it wasn’t for my family. I belong to this lovely group on Facebook called, “The Beauty and Fashion Blog Community.” I really love being part of this community, and being able to interact with other beauty bloggers. Each month we do something called a blog hop, and this month we decided on, “Mothers Day Gift Ideas.” Quite a few ideas come to mind when I think of this, but all in all, it depends on the person that you’re buying for and their interests. Hope you enjoy!

1) Origami Owl Necklace

If you don’t know what Origami Owl is yet, then I suggest that you check it out! It is a jewelry company where you can make lockets. This company was started by a young girl named Bella, and the companies’ motto is this…YOU TELL STORIES WITH WORDS….we tell stories with jewelry. I think that is why I love this company so much. I love the personalization part of it. There are many different shapes and colors of lockets. Once you pick your locket out, you can personalize it with plates, dangles, and tons of different charms. You can find their website here.

It would be a fun gift for any jewelry loving mother to receive. It would also add an extra touch by adding birthstones of children, grandchildren, etc to the locket. I thought that the locket down below was super cute for someone who loves gardening. Both the photos below were found on the Origami Owl Living Locket Facebook group. You can find that group here.

Just some more examples of some adorable charms that are available!

Photo: While you enjoy your family this weekend, why not spend some time with your brothers and sisters picking out charms that Mom would love for Mother's Day!

2) Scentsy Fragrance Candle Wax & Warmers

I used to sell Scentsy. Actually I put in my last order yesterday. I still do love the company, it was just getting to be too much with selling it. I am not a very good business woman! Since I sold Scentsy for awhile, my mom and grandma both have a good amount of warmers. If you don’t know what Scentsy is, then you have been living under a rock. No! Just kidding! Or am I? But, Scentsy is a company that sells warmers that melt scented wax with the use of a light-bulb or a heating element.

You can find a copy of the catalog here.

Here is a picture of a couple of my favorite warmers. The owl also comes in a plug in!

3) Jamberry Nails

I recently discovered this company! I have yet to try these nail wraps, but I still wanted to include them in this post. Moms are super busy, so they need something long lasting and quick. These come in so many amazing designs! Pictures found from their website here.

4) Fun at the Salon!

A fun thing for a busy mom would be a gift certificate to enjoy a massage or a manicure/pedicure. You could also treat her to a facial!

5) Shutterfly

You can find their website here.

Moms love personalized things, well at least my mom does. Shutterfly is an amazing site! I love it! You can make many personalized items on it. My favorite item to make is the photo book. I guarantee that most moms will love if you give them a photo book. I really love the customized path for photo books because I like making each and every page exactly how I want. Two years ago, I made my mom a phone case for her Iphone and gave it to her for Christmas. There are also mugs, mouse pads, pillows, table runners, plates, and a ton more items that you could personalize for your special mum or grandma! Overall, Shutterfly is just amazing!

6) Fortune Cookie Soap & Lush Mother’s Day Collections

If you’re buying for a mom that loves skincare and taking baths, then I recommend both of these companies! Fortune Cookie Soap has a new Mother’s Day Collection! Click the links underneath the photos to see more information of both companies!

7) Willow Tree Figurines

If you’re buying something for someone who loves figurines, I recommend Willow Tree! I have quite a few of them and I love them as well! My mom and grandmas both love them too! You can get Willow Trees at Hallmark and a few other stores. I usually get mine from Hallmark. You can find more information here.

With that, I hope that you enjoyed my Mothers Day gift ideas! Let me know if any of these ideas helped you decide what to get your mom, grandma, etc! Make sure to check out all the other blogs that are a part of this blogging community!

Day 29 Julep Birthstone Collection: April!

If you have been following me you know that I have been picking up the Birthstone Collection by Julep each month. This month I forgot to order it right away and then shipping took awhile. I’m sorry I’m sharing with you this post at the end of April, when it should have been at the beginning to middle of April.

The birthstone for the month of April is the diamond! My brother was born in April so he gets the diamond birthstone. When we were younger, he would always make fun of us because he was the diamond child or something like that.

According the The American Gem Society, “As the April birthstone, diamonds are the ideal gift for a loved one. And now you have more choices than ever. Get creative and give the ultimate gift of beauty: a fancy-color diamond. Fancy-color diamonds are natural, rare and truly exotic gem of the earth. Diamonds in hues of yellow, red, pink, blue, and green range in intensity from faint to vivid and generally the more saturated the color, the higher the value. In fact, diamonds sparkling with intense color are rare and may be priced higher than a colorless diamond of equal size. Because fancy-color diamonds are very desirable, color is sometimes introduced in a laboratory. These are correctly called color-treated diamonds. When purchasing a fancy-color diamond, the shopper should ask if any enhancements or treatments were used to improve its color and/or clarity. – See more at: http://www.americangemsociety.org/april-birthstone#sthash.Sua3qfoG.dpuf”

What Julep says about their April polish stated down below and in italics.

Breathable nail color—Color Treat is no ordinary nail polish.
Color description:Diamond birthstone. Full-coverage holographic microglitter with real diamond dust for extra sparkle. The amazing April jewel in our gold-capped Birthstone Collection.
Coretta – Diamond for April is a tribute to the luminous life and legacy of civil rights leader Coretta Scott King, born April 27.

I love that they name each polish after someone important in society!

Here is a picture of Coretta Scott King! She worked along side her husband Martin Luther King Jr. and was known as, “First Lady of the Civil Rights Movement,” Image and information found off the Julep Blog here.

These photos were also found on their blog which is once again found here.

My Thoughts

The polish comes in its normal Julep style packaging. This polish does have a gold top compared to their normal black top. Amount included is small but their usual size at .27 fl oz or 8 ml.

IMG_20140427_163129504

I really love this color because it is one of those polishes that depending on the light it looks a different color.

The Formula

I was really excited when I first saw the shade and was excited to paint my nails with this polish. I was very very disappointed with this formula. I will admit I’m not the best at painting my nails, but this polish was extremely hard to work with. It was super thick. You may or may not be able to tell how thick the polish was by the photo below. It reminds me a lot of the consistency of January’s polish. I would describe the consistency a lot like a gel which is hard to spread across the nails without making a mess like I did. Also, this was my first time using it and it is already a third gone. The picture above is a picture of my 3 best nails that I painted. I ended up getting annoyed with this polish because some of them looked awful and a few of them that looked nice ended up getting smudged, lets just say the nail polish remover came out! It really makes me sad that I wasted my time painting my nails. Basically in order to get better results, I had to wipe pretty much all the polish off the brush, but then it would take multiple coats to make it more opaque. I really hope that this Julep Pile wand will help me with application and actually help me enjoy painting my nails. (I will be getting my May subscription box soon because they sent them out early!) But, I really think that the problem here was the formula. I really hope that they do much better with May.

Day 23: My Essie Nail Polish Collection

Over the years I have picked up quite a few Essie polishes. This brand is one of my favorite brands to use on my nails. I think that these nail polishes apply very nicely on the nail. They’re also available at numerous stores so they’re very easy to find. I have a wide variety of colors, but I mostly have pink and purple colors. Comment and let me know if you have any of these colors and what you think of them!

Here are all 10 of my Essie polishes in a cute little pyramid!

IMG_20140422_170753805

I used the Essie website for the descriptions that I included next to the polish names. I did link the actually Essie website under each name for easier access as well. I got pretty much all of these polishes at Target.

Day 16: The Wizard of Oz Collection by Julep

When I first saw this collection I knew I had to have it! I love The Wizard of Oz! This movie recently celebrated its 75th Anniversary, so to celebrate Julep came out with this lovely collection of nail polishes.

DESCRIPTION

The description is off of Julep’s website and can be found here.

Four gorgeous nail colors created in honor of the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of OzTM.

  • Emerald CityTM: Emerald crème
  • Tin ManTM: Silver holographic
  • Glinda the Good WitchTM: Pink frost
  • Ruby SlippersTM: Full-coverage red multidimensional glitter

PACKAGING

I find the packaging to be amazing and very well done! It is super colorful and describes the movie very well.

IMG_1872

I really like that they put all 4 characters on the back. Once again, I think the packaging is amazing.

IMG_1873

The inner flap shows the yellow brick road to Emerald City. Yes, Mirya got a hold of this and chewed on the little flap. Luckily, I caught her before too much damage was done!

IMG_1875

All the polishes have a certain spot with their corresponding image. This set includes 4 polishes: Ruby Slippers, Tin Man, Glinda the Good Witch, and Emerald City. Once again, love the packaging. Although, I do wish that there was a spot for the yellow brick road. I’m very surprised that they didn’t include a polish called, “Yellow Brick Road.” But, I guess we can’t have everything!

IMG_1881

INGREDIENTS

Here is a closer up picture of all the ingredients in each of the polishes. It also is cruelty free! 🙂

IMG_1874

POLISHES

I apologize in advanced because these are not the best painted nails, but I really wanted to share this set with you. I am working on my nail polish painting skills. I just have a terrible time using my left hand because I am very dominant with using my right hand. I am excited to try Julep’s new system and see how that works.

Ruby Slippers

Dorothy’s red shoes were a big part of the movie so I’m glad they decided to include this one. This polish is a red glitter polish, I think they did a great job with matching the color and glitter to her shoes. I was nervous about trying this polish because I have had bad luck with other glitter polishes from Julep (February birthstone). I was pleasantly surprised. This formula was really easy to apply. It is very sheer with 1 coat, but if you add more than 1 coat it becomes more opaque. In the picture below I applied this polish to my ring finger as an accent nail. The polish on the other nails is Tin Man. I didn’t feel like doing all my nails in glittery red at that time. Sorry for the horrible picture quality. I took this photo with my Iphone.

IMG_1714

Tin Man

This is my favorite polish out of any of them! This is a gorgeous holographic silver. The polish shows up differently in different lighting. I would consider this my all time favorite silver polish and probably a good favorite of mine in my entire collection. The formula is super nice and easy to apply. It dried really fast, but I did use a fast drying top coat. The finish of this polish was just amazing. Good Job Julep on this color!

IMG_1704

Glinda the Good Witch

This polish is a very faint frost pink shade. It is meant to match Glinda’s dress. This formula is once again easy to apply. It does need at least 2 coats because it is such a light shade. I would have preferred it to be a little darker, but all in all they did a good job with matching her dress. This shade did smudge when I applied it because I’m impatient for waiting for nails to dry! I think a big reason why this smudged was because I didn’t use a fast drying top coat.

IMG_1379

Emerald City

I really love this shade of green. I got a lot of compliments on the color. It is something different. Even someone told me that it reminded her of Emerald City. This is a creme polish. This polish applied really nice as well and it only needed 1 coat. It did chip really fast, but honestly I think that it was because Seche Vite doesn’t work for my nails.

IMG_1802

These pictures looked a lot better on my Iphone, but now on the screen they don’t look as clear. Boo Iphone and bad lighting!

Hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know if you have this set or are interested in getting it after reading my review. Comment down below and let me know what you think!

Day 9: Fortune Cookie Soap: Spring Box 2014

IMG_0985

I was really excited to receive this yummy smelling package in my mailbox. I’ve had it for awhile and am finally sitting down to do this post. I even felt like skipping this post because I got it awhile ago, but I just couldn’t. I can’t do my Fall box, my Winter box, and then skip my Spring box. Nope not happening! I think the reason that it took me so long to write it is, I just wasn’t feeling Spring yet. Even though at the time, I could have probably skipped to Summer because the Winter was terrible this year. A few of my items were actually frozen so I had to un-thaw them! Now I am definitely feeling Spring. If you don’t know what Fortune Cookie Soap is, then you should check them out. You can find their website here. FCS is a lot like Lush, Bath and Body Works, and The Body Shop. The thing that sets them apart from the others is that they send out little subscriptions boxes 4 times per year. This is my third time receiving a box from them. Four times a year FCS comes out with new product launches so this subscription service gives the subscriber a little heads up on what the new products are.

THE THEME
Something that I love about Fortune Cookie Soap is that they always seem to have a theme for their boxes and product launches. This new product launch theme is called, “The Garden of Good & Evil” My last soap box dealt with the movie, “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Check out my previous FCS boxes! The Quarter Quell collection was a separate collection that I ordered from when Catching Fire was in theaters.

THE PRODUCTS (All the descriptions are from the card included in the box)

IMG_1003

THE GOODS: Rainbows! Butterflies! Fig leaf bikinis! We’re not gonna lie, The Goods gave us a run for our money. 🙂 But we think we’ve done “The Garden of Good justice, with three fragrances that are pure, angelic, and virginal. You know, all that”good” stuff!

IMG_1001

1) Native Nectar Body Wash: Fresh cracked coconut. No machete required.

IMG_0988

Reading the description of the product, I thought I would hate it. Good news, I really liked the scent of this body wash and I have already used this up. If I needed a body wash, I would purchase this one. I’m not going to because I already have a few other body washes and soaps to use up before repurchasing any others. I didn’t really smell that much coconut in it which is a good thing because I’m usually don’t like coconut scents. This just reminds me of fresh Spring air. It moisturizes the skin surprisingly well. It doesn’t lather as well as other body washes, but I think that is a good thing because those types tend to strip the skin more.
2) Afternoon Delight OCD: Pink watermelon dancing with fresh apricots, crowned in white florals.

IMG_0991

I loved the scent of this OCD or hand sanitizer! It is my favorite scent out of the box. I wish that this scent came in more than just this. It reminds me more of Summer because of the fresh watermelon scent. The apricots and the white florals added to the watermelon makes the scent amazing. The OCD is also not drying like normal hand sanitzers. So I just searched their site and I have good and bad news. The good news: they have this scent in pretty much every FSC soap product I could think of. The bad news: I’m on a no buy. Oh well! Another bad news: I can’t find where I put this lovely OCD.
3) Marshmallow Dreams Cuticle Butter: Lavender sprigs draped over sage and basil, livened with a splash of vodka, and a swirl of sticky, sweet marshmallow fluff.

IMG_0995 IMG_0996

I really like this product because of the consistency. It reminds me of Lemony Flutter from Lush, but just with a different scent. It is super moisturizing for the cuticles. This jar will last forever because it has a very thick formula and a little bit goes a long way. The scent is very light and refreshing. This stuff is not sticky and is honestly a perfect consistency. Once again, FCS made a great product!

THE EVILS: Yeah, Baby! It’s the strangest thing, but once we started on The Evil’s they just came naturally. Weird, huh? 😉 We don’t know what Evil smells like, but we’re betting it goes something like this…

IMG_1002

1) Make it Rain Whipped Cream: Grab your umbrella! Sparkling droplets of citrus & jasmine dripping with musk, clutched by bloated cedarwood boughs.

IMG_0989

I love FCS whipped creams. They’re super moisturizing and they’re one of my favorite products to apply on my hands. They remind me of The Body Shops body butters. The consistency of this product is light and fluffy. I do like the scent as well, but it isn’t my all time favorite scent. It reminds me of being outside and it is very earthy smelling. I would not repurchase this item in this scent, but I would of course purchase this in the Afternoon Delight scent.
2) Forbidden Fruit Fortune Cookie Soap: Dusky verbena creeping over fresh blueberry skins and lemon zest.

IMG_0998

Love these soaps! I think that these little soaps are very unique. A soap shaped like a Fortune Cookie and than a business named after them. The scent is amazing! It is very fruity and just amazing! This is my second favorite scent from the Spring collection. I have not used this yet, but I plan to sometime soon!
3) Me so Thorny Steam Me Up Scotty! Me love you long time! Sorry, I couldn’t resist! Citrus, lavender and french vanilla corrupted by a dark shadow of patchouli & sandalwood.

IMG_0992 IMG_0993

I actually threw this guy away without using it because I did not like the scent. It was way too strong. I could definitely smell the patchouli. These are a nice product to have because you use them just throwing it on the floor during a hot shower.

4) The Bloom Bloom Room Bath Fizzy: A strip club for flowers?? I wanna go! A sinfully sweet combination of Jasmine, Lilac, and Lily of the Valley darkened with throbbing musical notes of fresh peach & citrus, all swirling around poles of decadent spun sugar.

IMG_0994

These remind of Lush’s bath bombs, but this one is much smaller. They of course also have big ones like Lush in case you were wondering. I have yet to use this, but I’m not too fond of the scent. It is sort of strong, but it isn’t a bad scent or anything. I really like the fruity notes in the scent, but I feel like the floral is a little to overpowering.

5) Venus Fly Trap Perfume Oil: Bergamot, narcaisse & musk lurk beneath delicate notes of water orchid, sparkling lemon & pink jasmine.

Sadly, I lost this little guy. I wasn’t too impressed with the packaging. I was scared I would spill it all over, so I never smelled it when I initially opened my package. Soon after that it was lost. I really wish that I could find it because I looked at some reviews online and it has a few awesome reviews!

IMG_0999

So that concludes this Fortune Cookie Soap box post! Overall, I was quite impressed. I really love Fortune Cookie Soap and I love supporting smaller businesses. My favorite scents were the Afternoon Delight OCD and the Forbidden Fruit FCS. My least favorite was the Steam me Up Scotty. I love receiving these boxes each and every season. I look forward to receiving my Summer box. They also have an adorable Easter collection going on right now, along with some Harry Potter items that were resurrected for Easter. Comment and let me know if you have tried Fortune Cookie Soap and what you’re favorite products are! I love reading your comments!

Day 6: TAG 10 Beauty Mistakes I Used to Make!

I saw this tag going around Youtube, and I thought it would be a cool tag to do. Right now I’m thinking of the new
Christina Perri song, “Human” because we are all only human. We make mistakes! We may be in a hurry and do things that maybe we shouldn’t. So here are my list of beauty mistakes that I used to make. Honestly, sometimes I still do make them.

HAIR

1) Not using a heat protector
I am very guilty of not using a heat protector. I hardly ever curl my hair or use a hair straightener, but I do a lot of blow drying. Even that is harsh on hair! I’ve been using the Tresemme heat protector. Recently I got a free Take 10 from Ulta and one of the 10 things that apparently this does is protect from heat.

2) How I shampooed my hair
I used to put shampoo in my hands and then start on the top of my head. Doing that usually ended up with tons of tangles. The best way to shampoo your hair is to start at the middle part of the hair to the ends and work the shampoo up to the roots without turning it into a rats nest.

3) I used the wrong brush when my hair was wet
I have been super mean to my hair! Taking a hot shower makes hair fragile. Nobody likes a cold shower, unless it’s a super hot day! Taking a hot shower opens up the hair follicles making breakage easier. So using the wrong brush was not good for my hair. Sometimes yes we are in a hurry and we can’t wait for our hair to dry some before brushing it. Maybe do your makeup first? I decided to toss my normal brush and I ordered a new type of brush: the tangle teezer! I will be doing a review on these brushes sometime coming up.

NAILS

4) Basecoat? What’s that?
I never used a basecoat! Then I would be annoyed when I took my polish off and my nails were stained. This is mostly on my toes, because especially during the summer I wear nail polish all the time. Some of those brighter colors have a tendency to stain those nails! So use a base coat!

5) Laziness on actually taking the polish off
Just go get that nail polish remover instead of doing what I used to do! Don’t peel that polish off the nail bed. It isn’t good for them! I’m very guilty of this recently because I got a gel manicure and it started peeling off. I’m sort of OCD so I peeled some of it off before I got to the store to get acetone remover! Naughty me! My nails looked awful after that! They’re getting better now and plus I’ve been taking Biotin.

SKINCARE

6) Being mean to my under-eyes
This skin is fragile! FRAGILE! I used to have dry eyes and I used to rub my eyes. NO NO! Naughty me! That causes premature wrinkles! Wish I could take that back because I don’t want wrinkles! Also, I used to use my pointer finger to apply under eye lotion or concealer. No! Use that ring finger because it is the weakest finger on the hand.

MAKEUP

7) Applying concealer
I used to apply concealer the wrong way. I would apply it under the eyes, but then I was rub it in lightly. It is better to tap (using that ring finger) or a brush and blend it in. Rubbing the concealer in defeats the purpose. Tapping it in makes for a much better finish.

8) Powder powder!
I would apply my concealer and not set it with powder. Then it would crease and my mascara would go all over my under-eyes. Soon I looked like a panda! Now that I set my concealer with powder, the longevity of my mascara is so much longer. I don’t use powder for oily skin ( I have dry skin), but use it for pulling the look together.

9) Eye-shadow problems
When I first started getting into eye-shadow, I wasn’t sure on the best way to apply it. I would place it on the brush and sweep it across the lid. Doing it that way caused for more fall-out. To get the best pigmentation and the least amount of fall-out placing the shadow on the brush and then patting the eyelid works the best for me. Then after that use a blending brush to blend out the harsh lines.

10) Washing those makeup brushes…
I think that this is a mistake that a lot of people make. I do wash my makeup brushes, just not as often as I should. Not washing them can cause germs and then dipping them into shadows places germs in the shadows. Ick! I really need to wash my brushes again. Here is a beauty mistake that I still do make. I will be doing a post on how I wash my makeup brushes in the future!

Phew! I’m to #10! Comment and let me know if you are guilty of these mistakes! Consider yourself tagged if you’re reading this because I think that it is fun reading this tag! Comment down below and leave a link when you do this tag or if you have already done it.

Day 1: Beauty & Fashion Spring Picks Blog Hop

April 2014

It is time for another blog hop!! This time we decided to do Spring Product Picks as our topic, which is very fitting for this time of year. Although, looking outside I feel like Spring is so far away. Even though I see a little (brown) grass, there is mostly snow. I still have been using some products of mine that scream Spring! The Winter colors are long gone and it is time for Spring! I am going to share with you all a variety of items that I will be using this Spring such as: makeup, clothing, accessories, and much more.

MAKEUP

During the winter months, I tend to wear a lot of neutral colors and I got a lot of use out of my Naked palettes and my Sigma warm neutrals palette. Although, I feel like I could still use those palettes in Spring, I am more excited about colorful eye shadow looks. Bye bye neutrals! Hello color!

Eye-shadow Palettes

My favorite makeup item is eye shadow. If you have been following my blog, you probably know that is no surprise! It is my favorite part of makeup application because I love finding my creativity with my eye looks! If I am going to apply makeup, I will never skip eye shadow. I do have quite a few makeup palettes. I almost didn’t include all these, but I really think that they’re perfect for Spring. I love the colors in all of them!

IMG_1383

IMG_1384

IMG_1385

Aren’t the colors gorgeous?!? I feel like all these colors are perfect for Spring.

Stila In The Garden Palette
I love this palette because I can make a multitude of looks. My favorite shadows in this palette are the green ones, also the purple toned one that reminds me of the color of the year (radiating orchid).
Inglot Freedom System
I picked out the shadows to fill my palette, and as you can see, I went for brighter colors. I have a variety of colors such as: mint green, an orchid color, and many more.
Urban Decay The Great and Powerful Oz Glinda
Palette
I love this palette! I also love this movie! My favorite shadows include: the purple shadow and the pink shadow.
Kat Von D Esperanza Palette
I got this palette mostly for the purple and mint green shadow. This palette has a variety of colors that end up working together in this palette. I love the purple color making it perfect for Spring!
Sigma Creme De Couture Palette
This was a limited edition palette inspired by macaroons. I feel like they should have waited and released this palette now because it has such bright, fun colors. They released it last year, around Fall time, which didn’t really make sense.
Sigma Flare Palette
I love this palette for the colors that it includes, especially the purple shadows. I haven’t got much use out of the other colors in this palette, but I look forward to finding my creativity with it.

Blush

IMG_1386

A look closer at the colors…

IMG_1387

The Balm How ‘Bout Them Apples?
How adorable is this palette’s packaging? The Balm always does amazing things with packaging! I don’t really use cream blushes that often so there is still learning in process on application. It will be fun using this palette this Spring.
Pixi Beauty Blush in No. 3 Perkiest Pink
Got this blush on clearance at Target. I’m glad that I picked this blush up, because the color is amazing. It is a super nice Springy pink.
Sleek Blusher in Coral
Of course, I needed to include my coral Sleek blush. Love this blusher that I got in my box swap. Such a gorgeous coral blush color!
Clinique Cheek Pop in Plum Pop
If this blush doesn’t scream Spring, than I don’t know what does? It is shaped as a lovely daisy flower and the color is gorgeous!

Lips

IMG_1390

Pacifica Lip Tints ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
I love these! I started out with the color, Guava Berry and I have almost used that one up. I decided to get more of them since I love them so much. I will be doing a review on these lovelies! So make sure to check back! They’re so easy to use and perfect for Spring time. This is a product that I sent to Effie in my box swap!

Lip Glosses

IMG_1392

Maybelline Color Elixir in Dashing Orchid
This is perfect because it is the color of the year. Gives such a nice color to the lips and so far I’m loving the texture.
Nyx Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait
Nyx Butter Glosses are amazing! They also smell amazing as well! I will be posting a review on these soon!
Julep Lip Gloss in Enchanted
Love the color of this gloss! It is sure Enchanted!
Urban Decay Naked Ultra Nourishing Lip Gloss in Lovechild
I got this gloss awhile ago when it first came out. I haven’t worn it much because I think that it is more fitting for Spring-time.

FASHION

Clothing

IMG_1444 IMG_1443IMG_1413

IMG_1441 IMG_1440

I got most of this clothing at Maurices or Vanity, except for the scrubs shown. For Spring, I am excited to bring out the fun colors such as: pinks, orange, turquoise, and many more. Of course, I had to show a few Spring dresses (more like Summer) because I can’t wait for the snow to melt. As you can see, I took these photos by the window and you can still see the icky snow! I hear that it is supposed to snow here again, but who knows! Those meteorologists aren’t always right! Working as a nurse on the medical-surgical floor, I supply my own scrubs, so that means I want to wear Spring ones during Spring. I am also into holiday scrubs! I just got that Easter one shown above! Isn’t it adorable!?!? I know I didn’t show any bottoms, but I can’t wait until I can at least wear capris and sandals. Sadly, I think I’ll be wearing pants for awhile and won’t be able to take my sandals out until all the snowy, muddy mess is gone!

Shoes

IMG_1397

Here are my rainbow tennis shoes that I adore. Whenever I wear these, people always compliment me on them. They’re colorful and fun!

IMG_1398

I just got these boots not too long ago. They’re part of the Baretraps new Spring line. I thought they were super cute!

IMG_1448

Sandals! I can’t wait to wear these lovelies! I love wearing sandals! Although, I will have to get my feet ready for sandal season by getting a pedicure! SNOW MELT!!!! Just not too fast, so that it floods!

ACCESSORIES

Hair

IMG_1394

Wearing headbands like these in my hair is perfect for Spring. Also, these don’t give me a headache like some other headbands. I got all of these at Maurices of course!

Purses

IMG_1395

IMG_1396

I got this purse on sale, and I decided that purple would be perfect for Spring. It is also the perfect size and the inside print is adorable! The color in real life is closer to the second photo. I got this purse at Herberger’s!

Scentsy

IMG_1403

Just thought I should share with you all my favorite Spring Scentsy warmer. I have a ton of these warmers because I am a Scentsy consultant. These warmers melt scented wax using a lightbulb. This one is shaped as an egg and adorable!!! I of course, have a ton of favorite Scentsy bar scents such as: Jumpin’ Jelly Bean and Black Raspberry Vanilla.,

PERFUME ❤

IMG_1447

Here are a few (or 6!) of my favorite perfumes that I feel are perfect for Spring! I love perfumes! Although I can’t wear it everyday because of being a nurse, I love wearing it on my days off! The descriptions start on the top left to top right, and then bottom left to bottom right.

  1. Anna Sui La Vie De Bohème. You can find this perfume here. I love the scent of this perfume! According to Sephora the notes include: Turkish Rose, Pear, Red Berries, Dragon Fruit, Magnolia, Peony, Freesia, White Wood, Skin Musk, Red Raspberries, Vanilla, Sandalwood Accord. I think that it has a nice mix of scents: pretty, fresh, and sweet. It isn’t too floral which is always a plus.
  2. Katy Perry Meow. You can find this perfume here. I really love this perfume! The packaging is adorable for one thing! Who doesn’t love cat packaging!?!?! Notes include: top notes (Tangerine, Pear and Gardenia), middle notes (Honeysuckle, Lily of the Valley and Orange Blossoms), and bottom notes (Vanilla, Musk Amber and Sandalwood). I just think that this scent is very girly. It smells fruity, floral, and fresh. Love it! ❤
  3. Mark Night Iris. You can find it on Avon’s site here. What Avon says, “Its dark, mysterious beauty draws you in. Its scent surprises, lighter than you’d ever expect. This is Night Iris as it’s never been before, artfully blended with hints of water lily, exotic berries and purple freesia to add to its feminine allure.” I used to sell Avon/Mark and this is one my favorite perfumes from them. It smells amazing with feminine, fruity, and floral hints.
  4. Clinique Happy in Bloom. I got this little sample for Christmas. You can find the perfume at Ulta here. What Ulta says, “Everything we love about spring – in a bottle. Clinique’s upbeat floral fragrance makes your world sweeter, softer, brighter. Captures the feeling of a world suddenly in bloom. But just like the season, it won’t be here forever.” This is my favorite Clinique perfume and it definitely reminds me of Spring when flowers are blooming.
  5. Maurices Myliu. I love this perfume! I got it at my favorite store Maurices awhile ago. I can’t find it online on their site anymore, but if you’re in Maurices and see this perfume, I recommend checking it out. It smells amazing! I don’t even know how to explain this scent, but it is a favorite of mine.
  6. Avon Secrets to Keep. You can find this perfume on Avon’s site here. What Avon says, “A dreamy blend of fruits and florals. Whispers of sweet apple and juicy strawberry with a passionate heart of jasmine, white musk and warm sandalwood.” I love this scent! It smells fruity and floral, but mostly fruity. I definitely can smell the strawberry notes in it.

NAIL POLISHES

Going through my nail polish collection, I picked out these lovely colors. I am horrible at painting my nails so I don’t do it as often as I want. But, this Spring, I want to paint my nails more!

Julep Birthstone Collection: March

After being super disappointed with February’s polish I debated on weather or not I wanted to continue with this collection. But, I decided that I couldn’t stop at February and wanted to give it another try.

March has two birthstones which include: Aquamarine and Bloodstone.

According to The American Gem Society, “The name aquamarine is derived from the Latin word aqua, meaning water, and marina, meaning the sea. This gemstone was believed to protect sailors, as well as to guarantee a safe voyage. The serene color of aquamarine is said to cool the temper, allowing the wearer to remain calm and levelheaded. Its pale, cool color beautifully complements spring and summer wardrobes. Aquamarine is most often light in tone and ranges from greenish blue to blue-green; the color usually is more intense in larger stones. This gemstone is mined mainly in Brazil, but also is found in Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia, Pakistan, and Mozambique.” Information found off their website here

According to The American Gem Society, “The second birthstone for March is bloodstone, a dark-green jasper flecked with vivid red spots of iron oxide. This ancient stone was used by the Babylonians to make seals and amulets and was believed to have healing powers — especially for blood disorders. It is sometimes called the martyr’s stone as legend tells that it was created when drops of Christ’s blood stained some jasper at the foot of the cross. Generally found embedded in rocks or in riverbeds as pebbles, primary sources for this stone are India, Brazil, and Australia.” See link above for more information.

Julep decided to go with the Aquamarine color.

Each month they name the polish after someone that was born in that certain month. This month’s Aquamarine polish is named Aretha for Aretha Franklin who was born March 25. In you’re interested you can find a biography in the link below.

What Julep says about this polish, “Aquamarine birthstone. Multi-dimensional glitter top coat. The March sparkler in our gold-capped. Birthstone CollectionAretha – Aquamarine for March is a tribute to a musical superstar. The soul queen, jazz diva, gospel godsend that is Aretha Franklin, born March 25. More information here

With February’s polish, the picture on Julep’s site was very misleading. That polish was very sheer in real life, but in the picture it looked much more colorful. So with all the bad reviews, I think Julep learned their lesson because….

julep-aretha-aquamarine-glitter-top-coat-nail-polish_swatch julep-aretha-aquamarine-glitter-top-coat-nail-polish_dollop

It is shown more sheer and doesn’t have false advertisement. (Sorry the pictures are so small, pictures found here.) It is also described as a top coat in the description.

My Pictures & Thoughts

I painted this color over a pinkish white polish that I have had on for a few days. I decided to do this since it seems to be more of a top coat.

IMG_1412 IMG_1408

IMG_1411 IMG_1410

As you can see, I felt like this was a very pretty top coat. I think that it worked nicely over this polish. I don’t think I would like it by it self as the photo from Julep shows. It was really easy to apply which is a big improvement from February. Although, I did try applying the February one without an underneath color (I did use a base coat). I do think that they could have done a better job with the color and make it more vibrant and opaque instead of making it a top coat.

Comment and let me know what you think of this month’s birthstone polish. Have you tried any Julep polishes?
