Minnesota Bloggers Swap with Blissfully Britt

Hey Beauty Deputy readers. I am a fellow Minnesotan of Brittany’s and we thought it’d be fun to mix it up for the day and trade blogs. You can find me here, but before you head over keep reading to learn some random facts about moi 🙂

1. What is your blog about? What are some of your favorite posts you’ve written?

In short, it is about my life. To get a better idea check out these posts about wanting to be engagedmy love for my small fur babythe guy I’m dating and why we workand an awkwardly embarrassing situation I managed to get myself into.

2. What do you like to do in your free time (besides blogging of course!)?

I love to read. When I am reading a book I usually can’t put it down and knock it out within a day. Lately though most of my free time goes towards trying to keep up with all of my TV shows. Hard work I tell ya.

3. What TV show are you obsessed with lately?

Oh so many. The Blacklist, Pretty Little Liars, 24, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD…the list could go on forever!

4. What is your all time favorite movie?

I would have to go with How To Lose A Guy in Ten Days. And Spider-man and more recently The Vow.

5. What is your favorite book?

I hate favorites, only because I literally can never pick one. I guess I’ll go with the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz. I haven’t read them in a while but they are a great read about a teenage spy.

Random picture of my cute puppy because who can say no to a face like that?

6. Would you rather go skydiving or scuba diving?

I would most definitely rather go scuba diving. I have a slight fear of heights and how can you go wrong getting to look at all the pretty sea life?

7.What is your favorite winter activity?

Although I haven’t done either in a few years it is a tie between tubing and ice skating. So fun!

8. If you could live anywhere where would it be?

As long as all my friends can come (mainly my bestie) I would be in Chicago on a heartbeat.

9. Who was your childhood TV character crush?

Weird as it may be I am going to have to go with TJ from Recess. I don’t what it was about him but I was smitten.

10. Who is your favorite superhero?

As you may have guessed from an earlier response I am a Spider-man lover all the way. Just call me MJ 😉

So I hope you enjoyed meeting me and that you’ll stop by and say hi so I can return the favor. You can find me here, blogtwitterinstagram.

Julep Birthstone Collection Review: February

In case you didn’t know, Julep is a company that makes nail polish. They started this new collection called, “The Birthstone Collection” last month. I did purchase January’s birthstone and now I am doing my review on February’s birthstone.

You can check out January’s birthstone review here.

I was pretty excited to receive February’s color because purple is my favorite color. I had high hopes for this polish while purchasing it. I expected it to be gorgeous!

PACKAGING

This polish comes in the normal Julep packaging with 8 ml of product.

20140226-213759.jpg

20140226-213810.jpg

The top of this polish is a gold color just like January’s polish.

20140226-213823.jpg

THE NAME

This polish is named after Rosa Parks! This is something that I find cool! Each polish is named after a public figure that had their birthday in that month. Last month’s was Betty for Betty White. I really think that it is cool that they picked Rosa for Rosa Sparks because she was such an inspirational woman.

What Julep says about this polish, “Amethyst birthstone. Full-coverage multidimensional holographic glitter. The fabulous February jewel in our gold-capped Birthstone CollectionRosa – Amethyst for February is a glistening tribute to an inspirational woman whose light continues to shine, Rosa Parks. Born February 4.” More information here.

THE COLOR

Here is a photo from Julep’s website.

As you can tell this polish color is gorgeous! I may be biased because of my love of purple.

20140226-213737.jpg

APPLICATION

Terrible
Horrific
Worst Ever
Disastrous
Horrid

You may be wondering why such negative adjectives! This was honestly the worst polish I’ve tried. Yes, it is a glitter polish and those are harder to control. But, this was horrendous! It was so streaky. I would take the polish and as soon as I would go over with the brush, it would just wipe away the polish making it very streaky. I ended up giving up and was close to throwing the polish in the garbage. No I didn’t…but, I feel like that is where this polish belongs. Don’t get me wrong, I do love other Julep polishes. Maybe they forgot to add an ingredient in this one. I even checked the ratings on their website and there were a lot of 1 star reviews. Betty (January’s polish) was a little hard to control, but nothing like this! I was looking forward to completing this collection as the months went on, but now I’m not sure if I want to continue.

20140226-213717.jpg

Here is 1 coat.

20140226-213709.jpg

Two coats. As you can see on my pointer finger, it was hard to control. Looks awful!

I just feel like Rosa Parks, who was such an inspirational woman to society, deserved a more high quality polish!

Comment and let me know if you have tried this polish before because this one was a huge huge huge miss for me! I think I should return this very disappointing purchase!

Palette Review: Sigma Beauty Warm Neutrals

So a lot of people may know that I love eye shadow palettes! I love creating many different looks with many different eye shadow colors and finishes. You may also know that I’m not afraid of color either. I could wear a purple eye as a during the day look and love it. But, it seems like during Winter I am loving my neutrals. Pretty much almost every cosmetic company has their form of a neutral palette and a lot of them seem repetitive. Sigma Beauty is one of my favorite cosmetics companies, and when I got a birthday certificate from Sigma I knew I had to get my hands on their new palette. This palette is part of the Sigma Enlight collection and is called Warm Neutrals.

What Sigma says about their  palette, “The Sigma Beauty Warm Neutrals Eye Shadow Palette is comprised of 12 new neutral shades of rich, warm hues giving you the ability to create endless options for a lit-from-within glow. This collection features matte, frost, sheen, duo-chrome and shimmer finishes. Paraben-free.” Information below.

  • See the entire Sigma Enlight Collection on their website here. This collection also includes blushes, bases, lip glosses, and many more.
  • See the Warm Neutrals palette on their website here.

PACKAGING

The palette comes in a outer sleeve as you can see below in the photos. I think that it makes it look very modern and sleek. The outer sleeves on palettes are there just to keep the palette protected, but usually I throw them away.

IMG_0497

The back of the outer sleeve that shows the names of the shadows included.  There is a sticker that says that it was hand checked by Sigma Beauty. It also states the ingredients and the size.

IMG_0498

The palette itself is black and feels very sturdy. It has a magnetic closure which is nice! I really like the look of this packaging with the silver logo and the Sigma wording across the middle of the palette. I think that it makes it look nice and high quality.

IMG_0500

It also includes a nice sized mirror, although it doesn’t like to stay up like most palettes.  Just like XSparkage would say…this palette could use some Viagra!

IMG_0501

THE EYE SHADOWS

I think that this palette includes a nice array of colors and also finishes making it different from other neutral palettes that I have. There are shimmery shadows and also matte shadows. Each shadow is imprinted with the Sigma name which I think makes it look nice and unique. I will let you know that I took these photos before using this palette so slowly the Sigma imprint will go away.

IMG_0502

THE SWATCHES

Row 1
OYSTER SAND: shimmery light baby pink. The shadow is pretty shear so it works best under a white base.
SUGAR MILK: matte light yellow beige. This shadow is a perfect  for a brow highlight.
MILD MANNERED: shimmery medium tanish-brown. This color works well as an all over shade.
DOVE: shimmery taupe brown. Here is another shadow that works well as an all over shade.

IMG_0507

IMG_0509

Row 2
FAWN:
shimmery gold with glitter flecks. Love this color!!!
CINNAMON:
matte orange-brown. This is a color that I think is perfect as a crease color.
RUSSET:
deep reddish-brown with pink glitter. Love this color.
BALANCED:
shimmery peachy-orange.

IMG_0508 - Copy

IMG_0510

Row 3
COZY:
matte medium brown. Perfect color to use as a crease color.
INNOCENT:
matte medium pink.
OPTIMISTIC:
shimmery raspberry pink with glitter.
WARM STONE:
matte chocolate brown with gold glitter.

IMG_0511

MY THOUGHTS
I really love this palette and I am glad that I got it! I think that Sigma improved their eye shadow formula with this palette. They’re not as powdery as others and very easy to work with. I still love Sigma’s other palettes, but I think that this one is one of my favorites from them. I love using my Sigma bases with this palette, especially Spy. I will be doing a post on those soon.

Pros

  • Great sturdy packaging
  • High quality shadows that are blendable
  • Nice array of colors and finishes
  • Very pigmented

Cons

  • Price $39.99, which isn’t crazy! But, the whole collection itself has a crazy price tag of $165.00 (remember it includes: blushes, eye shadow bases, brushes, lip glosses, and eyeliners). But still!!
  • Glittery shades have some fallout
  • Mirror doesn’t stay up which isn’t a big deal

SOME FOTDs FROM THIS PALETTE

Here is another look I created!

Hope you enjoyed this post!! Let me know what palette review you would like next!!!

February 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag

So once again it is time for my Ipsy bag! Hooray!!! Ipsy is a $10 a month subscription service that sends you numerous beauty samples in a cute cosmetic bag. I’ve belonged to Ipsy for awhile now and I do enjoy receiving that little pink package in my mailbox! Although I feel like last month’s Ipsy was a disappointment, I had high hopes while opening this one.

So keep reading if you want to know what I got…

The Bag of the Month

I find this bag to be nothing special. Honestly I feel like it is boring and that it could have had a better design. But, I do love the inside design at least. The bag does seems to be nice quality. It also has its normal Ipsy zipper handle.

IMG_0949

IMG_0950

IMG_0953

The Inner Cards

Came with an inner card called, “The Look of Love” which is this months theme. I think that the theme is cute and of course perfect for Valentine’s Day!  I doubt I would ever do that to my lips, unless I plan on planting a kiss on my boyfriend’s cheek. Then I would use red lip stick. Muhahaha!

IMG_0951

The Contents

IMG_0954

1)  J-Cat Eyelashes and Eyelash Glue

What Ipsy says, “Cause a ruckus as you bat your voluminous faux eyelashes! Each includes an individual eyelash adhesive for endurance through a night on the town!”

This is my first ever fake eyelashes. Something about putting glue and fake eyelashes that close to my eye freaks me out. I guess I would rather stick to mascara. I do have long eyelashes naturally, they just don’t like to curl. Maybe I will save these for Halloween. But, I must say so myself they do look like really nice ones. Very pretty! They’re also cruelty free! Yay!!!

IMG_0956

IMG_0957

2) City Color Be Matte Blush

What Ipsy says, “Available in 4 shades, this silky-smooth, highly pigmented matte blush compliments and blends evenly with your skin’s natural glow. Extremely buildable to create a subtle or dramatic look.”

Yay a full sized blush! I was excited to see this item because it is a matte blush. A lot of my blushes are more shimmery. So this will be fun to try out. It is a nice color in my opinion. It is in the color Fresh Melon. Check out the swatch below. It is also a cruelty free product! Yay!!!

IMG_0962

IMG_0963IMG_0964

3) Mally Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner

What Ipsy says, “This creamy formula glides effortlessly onto the lid and locks into lower rim to beautifully define your eyes. Create a fine line or a thicker line with no pulling or tugging. Wear it as a shadow by applying to the lid and smudge. Rich and full, this liner will give a strong coverage that lasts all day. “

I was excited to see this eyeliner in this month’s bag because I hear so  many amazing things about Mally. This product is worth $15 dollars according to Mally’s website so that already in itself succeeds the $10 price tag for the Ipsy bag. I wish that I would have gotten a brown or a charcoal grey instead of this silver color. I don’t wear this color very often, but I will give it a try!

IMG_0960

IMG_0961

4) Zoya Nail Polish

What Ipsy says, “This season’s Zoya Nail polish are full of pure pigment, intense color and modern complexity that are a perfect transition into Spring.”

This nail color is the perfect polish for Valentine’s Day! It is in the color Odette. I’ve never tried a Zoya nail polish (I have gotten previous ones in Ipsy bags, but have yet to try it.) I do hear very good things about Zoya nail polishes so I will have to give this one a try.

IMG_0958

5) Pop Beauty Plump Pout Mini

What Ipsy says, “This plumping pout perfector combines the high-shine of a lacquered gloss with the long wear of a stain and is packed full of lip-plumping peptides and avocado and jojoba oils. Lightweight, creamy texture immediately merges with lips & delivers intense glossy color for an extremely long-lasting finish! “

I’ve never tried anything from Pop Beauty so I was excited to receive this. I got mine in the color Peony Petal. This lip pout is super pigmented and is a really nice color.

IMG_0965

IMG_0966

Overall, I feel like Ipsy stepped it up compared to last month. I feel like I got a lot of nice products! A lot of full sized items too, so that is always a positive. My favorite item I got was probably the eyeliner. My least favorite was the eyelashes.  Comment down below and let me know what you got in your Ipsy Glam bag!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!! A FOTD leading up to Valentine’s Day!!!

Just wanted to take some time to say Happy Valentine’s Day!!! Needless to say I don’t have that exciting of a Valentine’s Day planned. It’s the start of my 12 hour overnight weekend. Usually there is only enough time to work, drive home to and work, shower, eat, sleep, and do it all over again. But, my days off leading up to Valentine’s Day I had some fun creating Valentine’s Day inspired makeup. I used my Urban Decay Vice 2 palette for this look. I really like how it turned out!

With that, I hope that everybody has an amazing Valentine’s Day!!!!!

TAG: The Valentine’s Tag!!!

So I saw this blog tag on Reviews/Ramblings & Randomness and I thought it was a good idea. You can check her blog out here. I thought it was the perfect time to do this tag because Valentine’s Day is tomorrow.

So here are the questions!!!

What is your favorite Valentine’s Day treat?
I don’t really have a specific Valentine’s Day treat, but if I lived closer to The Cheesecake Factory I’m sure that would be it. If you don’t know what The Cheesecake Factory is, that is where Penny works from The Big Bang Theory. Although in real life it is much more fancier and they wear all white instead of what Penny wears. My favorite cheesecake from there is the Dutch Apple Caramel Streusel!!!  Otherwise I love chocolate covered strawberries. Yum yum yum!!!

Sweethearts or chocolate covered strawberries?
Chocolate covered strawberries! I do love Sweethearts, but chocolate covered strawberries win by miles and miles.

What was your favorite Valentine’s Day memory?
During grade school making Valentine’s Day boxes and getting to pick out Valentines at the store to bring for my classmates. It was always a competition on who had the best Valentine’s Day box between the classmates. There were a lot of creative boxes throughout the years.

What movie would you rather watch on Valentine’s Day: “Pretty Woman” or “You’ve Got Mail”?

I would rather watch Pretty Woman because I haven’t seen You’ve Got Mail. So I suppose I should actually watch the one I haven’t seen. Comment down below if you think I should watch this movie.

What celeb would you not mind having as your Valentine?
I was never ever celebrity obsessed. I would love to have my boyfriend as my Valentine! But, I guess I’ll take this question seriously. I would have to say Channing Tatum!

What would you do on your perfect Valentine’s Day date?
I would love to go out to a fancy dinner and then end with a movie or a play. My boyfriend and I love going to the Cheesecake Factory. Yum yum yum!!! We would have started the day out by stopping by Mall of America of course!

Red or pink lips on Valentine’s Day?

Pink lips! I never wear red lips!

What is your ideal Valentine’s Day date outfit?

I would say a dress! But, Minnesota isn’t very nice right now with it being Winter, so I guess a sweater dress with leggings, a scarf, and boots.

Homemade or store-bought gifts?

Homemade! Love homemade gifts because of the time that it takes to make them. It makes them more special!

Would you wear your hair up or hair down for a date night?
Down. I’m horrible with doing hairstyles with my hair. I’m either a wear hair down or up in ponytail type girl. If I was amazing and doing hair I would say hair up.

So that concludes this tag! I’m going to tag anybody and everybody that reads this! Comment in the comment section and let me know if you end up doing this tag!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!! OR VALENTINE’S DAY EVE!!! OR HAPPY BELATED VALENTINE’S DAY! Depends on what time zone you’re in and when you’re reading this!

LUSH Valentine’s Day Collection Review

If you’ve been following me you know that I did a recent Lush UK Haul and I got a few of the Valentine’s Day items!

IMG_0781

All descriptions are from the UK site because it was an international order. See links below.

ITEM #1 Prince Charming Shower Gel

What Lush says, “With marshmallow root, Fair Trade vanilla and fresh pomegranate juice, Prince Charming will sweep you off your feet and carry you off into the sunset, leaving your skin silky soft and smelling lovely – the fragrance is made using a beautiful blend of grapefruit, sandalwood and geranium oils.” UK site here. US site here

This is definitely a different scent from Lush.  I kind of find a lot of Lush scents to be interesting if that makes sense. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. I do like this scent, it just isn’t my favorite. I more smell the grapefruit and the  pomegranate and don’t really smell that much marshmallow. It is pretty strong in the bottle, but once applied to the skin it has a nice more subtly scent.

Pros

  • Made with fresh ingredients such as: grapefruit oil, sandalwood oil, geranium oil, and almond oil.
  • Little goes a long way so even though it is a tiny bottle it should last for awhile.
  • Nice lather!

Cons

  • Expensive for a tiny bottle
  • Limited Edition
  • Parabens!!!! Not sure why Lush puts parabens in their products! Naughty Lush!!!
  • Has Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it!

Overall Thoughts

I liked it, but I don’t feel the need to rush out and buy more even though it is limited edition. I am also annoyed with Lush that they have parabens in their body washes!

IMG_0841 IMG_0842

ITEM #2 The Kiss Lip Balm

What Lush says, A delightful, whipped up gloss made from luxurious and protective butters including Fair Trade shea and cupuaçu. This preservative free tinted lip gloss gives a touch of colour to the lips. It’s so easy to apply you won’t even need a mirror!” UK site here. US site here.

This was probably the item that I most wanted to get out of the Valentine’s Day Collection. I think that the packaging is adorable.   I also wanted to try something from their lip product line that would have some color. I have tried the Honey Trap lip balm and I really like that one.

Pros

  • The scent is sweet so it is perfect for Valentine’s Day!
  • Great texture: light and airy
  • Love the scent
  • Not sticky
  • Nice pink color with a hint of shimmer

Cons

  • Limited Edition
  • Packaging: I wish that it was in a tube or something different than a tub. I don’t like applying the lip product with my fingers or holding up the tin up to my lips.
  • Lasting power quite isn’t there! I wish I could invent a lip gloss or lip balm that lasted all day!

Overall Thoughts

I really like this lip product and I do hope that they bring it back next year. I like the nice feel that it gives my lips. I also really love the scent.

IMG_0847

IMG_0848

IMG_0850

IMG_0893

Gives a nice pink color to the lips!

ITEM #3 Close To You Massage Bar

What Lush says, “This smooshable massage bar is beautifully fragranced with Fair Trade vanilla absolute. Inspired by the humble Jammie Dodger biscuit – as you peek through the heart shaped hole on top of bar you can see into the sumptuous white fondant centre.” UK site here. US site here

So one time I was in a Lush store and the girl was very interesting in trying to sell me a massage bar. Well I never wanted one, until I decided that my boyfriend should give me a back massage and if I have this product well then he has too! You can use this product for more than a back massage, but that it my main use for it.

Pros

  • Smells amazing! Reminds me of the scent from the Snow Fairy shower gel from Christmas time
  • Super moisturizing!
  • Fresh ingredients such as: organic shea butter, almond oil, and many more.
  • Melts easily with touching skin temperature
  • Adorable!
  • Now my boyfriend gives me back massages!
  • My back smelled amazing for hours afterwards!

Cons

  • Expensive which is normal for Lush
  • Limited Edition
  • Turns the skin slightly pink

Overall Thoughts

I really do like this massage bar. Love the scent. I wish that it wasn’t limited edition, but honestly the massage bar will last awhile. I’ve used it once and I’ve barely made a dent in it.

IMG_0843

IMG_0846

ITEM #4 Neon Love Soap

What Lush says, “This is a unique soap with an uplifting, fruity fragrance. Bergamot and rosewood work together to create a rich scent, whilst fresh figs, passion fruit juice and soya yoghurt nourish and soften the skin. ” UK site here. US site here

So with a Lush haul I of course have to get some soap! So I decided to pick this one up!

Pros

  • Good scent! Smells very fruity. I mostly smell passion fruit.
  • Moisturizing on the skin
  • Has natural ingredients such as: fresh passion fruit, coconut oil, and a few others.
  • Lathers well and makes light pink lather.

Cons

  • My piece didn’t have a heart in it like how they showed it online. 😦
  • Expensive
  • You guessed it! Limited Edition!

Overall Thoughts

I did like this soap, but I’m not going to run out and buy more of it even though it is limited edition. It has a nice scent, but it isn’t my favorite.

IMG_0824

IMG_0826

All in all I am glad that I got my chance to get the Valentine’s Day Collection because it’s going fast! I do think that Lush did a good job with creating this collection. My favorite items were the lip balm and the massage bar. Make sure you check it out while you still can! Comment and let me know if you’ve tried any Lush products and what is your favorite!

Huge LUSH UK Haul

If you’re a huge Lush lover like I am and live in the United States, you may know that Lush products aren’t cheap! I heard about people from the United States ordering from the UK site because it was cheaper. Well I decided to check it out! I figured that it probably wouldn’t be that much cheaper because then I would have to pay for international shipping. Well it doesn’t hurt to check it out…right?!? Another reason I decided to order from Lush UK was because the US site was out of Let the Good Times Roll which is almost a crime in my mind. I even tweeted them with my sadness. Then I started wondering about ordering from the UK site again and that is just what I did. I decided well if I’m going to order I might as well make it a good sized order.  I also knew that I wanted to get a lot of products so it was a good timing.

Steps on ordering from Lush UK

  1. Check to make sure your bank/credit card allows international purchases
  2. Go to their UK website here
  3. Set up an account
  4. Add products to cart that your heart desires
  5. Add the same items to the Lush USA site here
  6. Compare the prices by using a currency converter using Google. I typed in British pounds to US dollars into Google and it brought it right up. (fyi: currency exchange rates change everyday)
  7. Decide which is better pricing and if it is worth it
  8. Click check out
  9. Enter address (Change country to United States. There was no place for State so I put my City and State under City)
  10. Enter Zip Code
  11. Add a message for samples! (I added that I would like samples of shampoo and conditioner for oily hair and that I wanted to try the Karma Kreme)
  12. Review and Submit
  13. Wait until a wonderful Lush package arrives at your door step.

So how did ordering go for me?

It was super easy! I ordered on a Friday and I got my package the following Wednesday! That is crazy fast for international shipping!!! My package also had tracking so that was nice. I was really surprised when it came so fast!

So was it worth it?

After this post you may be commenting, “you need LA or Lush Anonymous,” but like I said if I’m paying international shipping I might as well make it worthwhile. I do think that it was worth it because even with international shipping (which was a lot), it was about 3o dollars cheaper! In not speaking of shipping it was $67.03 cheaper! That is astronomical!  I think that is crazy! For example the Dream Cream in the US is $26.95 for 8.4 oz!!! Since I got it from Lush UK it was £9.38! That comes out to be $15.31 for the same size!! So yes it was worth it!!! So I won’t be buying anything from Lush for awhile because well I’m all stocked up! Until next time I run out of Let the Good Times Roll! 😛

With that I hope you enjoyed this post!!! Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these products! I will be having a lot of happy baths in my future!

Xoxo
