Monthly Beauty Favorites: March 2015

This year has seriously been flying by, but that just means that here in Minnesota we’re closer to warmer weather! I can’t wait to wear summer dresses and sandals! A few weekends back I ditched my winter jacket because it was 60 degrees out! People were jacket-less and grilling in the middle of March. That was a weird feeling, but that is Minnesota for you. This month I found some new beauty loves and some re-discoveries! With that, I hope you enjoy my March monthly favorites!

1) Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_20150328_124513[1]

This month I have been loving this matte palette from Tarte. This is a very wearable neutral all matte palette. It has 12 shades included; a row of cool tones, a row of warm tones, and a row of purple tones. I am quite surprised with how smooth and blend-able these shadows are. They’re very versatile shades as well. Not only do I like to use this palette alone, I also love pairing it with the Makeup Geek foiled eye-shadows; if I want to add a metallic finish to the matte look.

2) Brilliant & Spellbinding Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_20150328_124439[1]

I have had this palette for a little while now, but one day while doing my makeup I was in search of a coral shade. Be hold the amazing Brilliant and Spellbinding palette by Sigma Beauty. I also really love the yellow shade as well. This palette is very “Spring” feeling in my opinion with the pink, yellow, and coral shades. I really love the Sigma Beauty eyeshadow formula in these palettes. They’re very pigmented, blend-able, and smooth. They have four palettes like these all together. I am thinking about de-potting all 4 of these palettes into a z-palette.

3) Urban Decay 24/7 glide-On Eye Pencil in Scorch

IMG_20150328_124611[1]

During my last trip to the cities I was looking for a bronze-brown eyeliner shade and ending up finding the shade Scorch. I have been using this shade quite a bit lately. It is a gorgeous shade that works well with neutral looks. I love the Urban Decay’s eyeliner formula and find it to be the best out of any that I have tried. I love how creamy and easy to apply they are.

4) Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Iced Mocha

IMG_20150328_124631[1]

I really love my Nyx Jumbo pencils! They work really well as a base. I never use them on their own, but they could be if you wanted to. The shade Iced Mocha is a gorgeous shade and works well underneath any neutral look. I feel like these jumbo pencils help my eyeshadow last longer during the day. I still use Urban Decay’s original eyeshadow primer underneath.

5) Lush Cosmetics Honey Trap Lip Balm

IMG_20150328_124544[1]

Recently I re-discovered this lip balm. I had it before and ended up losing it, so when I was at Mall of America’s Lush store I decided to replace it. This stuff is super moisturizing and smells like honey. ūüėÄ I always use it before I go to bed and it keeps my lips moisturized and smooth. It is also made out of natural ingredients which is always a plus.

That concludes this month’s monthly favorites! What have you been loving this month? Have you tried any of these products? Comment and let me know!

Lush Liquid Lipstick Review: Perspective

When I went to Mall of America’s Lush store, I decided to check out their makeup line. Since Lush prices are high, I only walked out with 1 thing from their makeup line, although I would have liked to try some more as well.¬†Once I decided that I was going to get a liquid lipstick, I swatched most of the shades in store.¬†I decided on the shade Perspective, which is a dusky rose. I find it to be a gorgeous shade!

IMG_20140723_183101388

What Lush says about Perspective, “This natural, dusky rose lipstick is perfect for everyday use and looks beautiful on a variety of skin tones. The rose wax and jojoba oil base ensure the lipstick goes on smooth and keeps lips hydrated all day long. We’ve heard fans calling this their all-in-one, as this creamy lipstick can also be used as a blush for a rosy glow. Wear Perspective when you need a new way of regarding a problem or situation; now you can see clearly.” More information found¬†here.¬†

Lush Cosmetics is all about making fresh products with fresh ingredients. That is something that I love about the company. Since their products are fresh, they leave a lot of preservatives out of it. With that being said, their products expire faster. Although, they do still have to add some otherwise it would need to be put into a refrigerator. This product is vegan. I also love that they stand against animal testing! That is a big pro for the animal lover in me.

Ingredients (Information also found in link above)

Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis), Candelilla Wax (Euphorbia cerifera), Rose Wax (Rosa damascena), Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Iron Oxides, D&C Red No. 27 Aluminium Lake, Titanium Dioxide

Packaging

The packaging is a lot different than any other products like this that I have tried. Although, I honestly haven’t tried that many liquid lipsticks. I think that the packaging is easy to use. The applicator is a dofa applicator so application is pretty easy. There is no chance of spilling with how they produced the package as well.

Swatches & on the Lips

I really fell in love with this shade when I swatched it in store because it is a natural wearable rosey pink. I am not big on bold lips so I think this shade is perfect for me.

IMG_20140723_183201861

Here are some pictures of me wearing the shade. Also, in case you’re wondering what is on my eyes, it is the one and only Naked 2 palette from Urban Decay. Love that palette!

IMG_20140723_183826243

Here is another picture with the lipstick and I am also sporting my new sunglasses!

IMG_20140726_121023

Formula

The formula is really pigmented and creamy. The consistency is hard to describe because it feels a little grainy or gritty when rubbing the lips together right after application. I actually think that it feels nice. It is very hard to describe. I recommend going into a Lush and trying it out for yourself. It does have an average wear time, so nothing too special. Of course, it does need to be reapplied after eating. I feel like when lipsticks last all day, they most likely have nasty ingredients in them. How else would they last that long?

Pros

  • Non-sticky
  • Fragrance free
  • Pigmented
  • Handmade
  • Natural shade
  • Creamy
  • Easy to apply

Cons

  • Price
  • May not be visible on all lip shades
  • Average wear time

Overall, I think that it was fun to try a Lush liquid lipstick. It is good to think that it is more natural than a lot of other lip products out on the market. Just think about it…I wonder how much lipstick or lip product a person ingests throughout their lifetime? Might as well be more natural…right?!? I do think that I would repurchase it again once I use it up. Although, I think it might take me awhile because I don’t wear it everyday. I have a year before it expires. *Goes and applies it to lips*

I got a lot of goodies! Comment and let me know if you want to see some OOTD posts!

bareMinerals
I actually ordered this online when bareMinerals had a 20% sale. I really wanted to try this Bareskin serum foundation. I got mine in the shade bare porcelain which is the lightest shade. I was actually surprised I was the lightest shade, but I was matched at Ulta (they were out of my color at the time) and it does match.

IMG_20140615_133332178_HDR

IKEA
The main reason from coming down to the cities was a trip to Ikea. Awhile back on my dad’s way back from the cities he made a little stop for me. I was going insane with my organization and knew he was driving by so I got the Alex 9 drawer. It is gorgeous! But, the top drawer had no holes in the piece. ūüė¶ Well, I thought about drilling my own holes, but I figured I would just have to make a trip to Ikea sometime. My Ikea Alex now looks lovely with a new drawer.

GLO-MINERALS
My local salon just got this new makeup and skincare line called Glo-Minerals. Awhile back, I got invited to this little class/presentation presented by someone from Glo-Minerals. I have never tried anything from this brand, but I decided why not?!? Time for some The Beauty Deputy research! I’m glad that I went because this brand sounds awesome. It is made of 100% minerals, it is cruelty free, and so much more! I did not get all the items listed below all at this one makeup party. Later on, I decided to pick up the brush cleaner and the cherry balm. The lip-glosses were free with purchase. Also, I got the dual foundation brush from my mom because she decided that she didn’t want it.

  • Precision Brow Pencil in Taupe

That concludes my Mall of America haul and my Glo-Minerals haul! Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these products!

Day 22: Lush Charity Pot Lotion Review

I have gone through a few tubs of this lotion from Lush. It was actually one of my first Lush items that I ever bought from them. I have now become a¬†big Lush fan and I am very happy that a classmate of mine told me about this amazing company. I love their beliefs and values and how they stand strong against animal testing. This lotion is called, “Charity Pot.” By buying a Charity Pot lotion, Lush actually donates 100% of its proceeds to charity (excluding taxes). That is pretty amazing for a company to do because usually it is 25% or less that goes to charity. There are a few different charities that you can pick from when buying your lotion. I think that this lotion is such a nice cause and that was the biggest reason that I decided to try this lotion over the others.

DSC00645  IMG_1276

According to Lush, “Since 2007,¬†we’ve donated more than¬†$4,750,000¬†to over¬†400 GRASSROOTS¬†CHARITIES¬†in¬†35 countries.” Information found here.¬†

I think that is amazing!

What Lush says about its Charity Pot lotion,Inside every black pot of Charity Pot is a whole lot more than a creamy body lotion to hydrate parched, dry skin. Of course, it‚Äôs filled with the finest ingredients, including Fair Trade organic cocoa butter, and made by hand with love. Not to mention the gorgeous fresh, ylang ylang floral fragrance. What makes it so special? Every penny (yes, every single penny) that you pay for a pot, excluding the tax, goes to fund and support grassroots charities all around the world. You end up with softer, floral-scented skin AND you‚Äôre doing a world of good with every pot purchased.” ¬†Information found here.¬†

Want more information?!? Check out this video from Lush!

Kudos to Lush for donating all the proceeds to charity!!!

Lush is known for its natural ingredients that they put into their products. Lush’s tagline is fresh handmade cosmetics, which it even states on their bag. With that being said, I felt like it was very important to check out the ingredients and talk a little bit about them.

IMG_1273

Ingredients as shown on Lush’s website

Water (Aqua) , Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) , Fair Trade Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao) , Glycerine , Stearic Acid , Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata) , Geranium Oil (Pelargonium crispum) , Tagetes Oil (Tagetes minuta) , Triethanolamine , Cetearyl Alcohol , *Geraniol, *Citronellol , *Limonene , *Linalool , Fragrance ,Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides) ,Methylparaben , Propylparaben

As you can see there is a lot of natural ingredients with the¬†featured ingredient being Ylang Ylang oil on their website. It also has fair trade cocoa butter. But, there is also parabens included. I’m surprised that these are included in this lotion since Lush strives for being all natural. I honestly don’t know that much about parabens, but with more and more things going paraben free I am honestly surprised that Lush hasn’t gone that way yet. Hopefully they will soon!

DSC00647

DSC00648

All Lush products come with this yellow sticker which states when the product was made, who made the product, and the expiration date.

MY THOUGHTS

Packaging

I’m not the biggest fan of lotion in tubs because I like easy access with using a pump. I’ll be honest sometimes I choose my Indigo Wild Almond lotion over this especially if I’m in a hurry because that lotion comes with a pump. Although, Lush states that its packaging is not virgin and made from 100% recycled plastic. I really think that is awesome of Lush, so all in all, I will still buy this over and over pump or no pump.

DSC00646

Sizes & Prices

The price is hefty, but I don’t mind because I love the cause! This lotion comes in 2 different sizes. The small tub is $5.95 for 1.7 oz and the large tub is $22.95 for 7.9 oz. Remember that this lotion is made fresh so yes it will be more expensive than lets say a generic lotion bought at a Target or Wal-Mart.

 Color

The color of this lotion is light yellow.

DSC00651

Scent

The scent isn’t the best in my opinion. It does smell super strong in the tub. Some people I know have been turned away from this lotion because of that. But, honestly it smells differently when applied to the skin. It isn’t as strong and it is nice and soft instead. It is a mixture between floral and cocoa. ¬†It reminds me of freshly cut flowers.

Texture

The texture is semi thick. It isn’t too liquidy and isn’t thick like a body butter. I feel like this lotion has a nice texture and it blends into the skin very easily. The lotion isn’t greasy at all.

Moisture

This is what makes this lotion amazing! I have super dry skin especially during the winter months. My legs become super dry and itchy if I don’t apply lotion. Using this lotion keeps my skin moisturized and feeling so much better. Even if the scent isn’t my favorite, this is the selling point for me. Like I said above, the scent doesn’t linger and once applied to the skin it is nice and soft.

Overall thoughts!

I really like this lotion if you haven’t realized that by now. Even though I’m not the¬†fondest¬†of the scent, I still do love this lotion. When I went to Lush at Mall of America they had the little Charity Pots sitting up at the register. Of course I decided to throw one in with my other purchases! I will continue to buy this lotion, but I really do hope that they make it paraben free!

Comment and let me know what you think of this lotion! What do you think of the scent? Comment down below and let me know! I love hearing from you all!

Huge LUSH UK Haul

If you’re a huge Lush lover like I am and live in the United States, you may know that Lush products aren’t cheap! I heard about people from the United States ordering from the UK site because it was cheaper. Well I decided to check it out! I figured that it probably wouldn’t be that much cheaper because then I would have to pay for international shipping. Well it doesn’t hurt to check it out…right?!? Another reason I decided to order from Lush UK was because the US site was out of Let the Good Times Roll which is almost a crime in my mind. I even tweeted them with my sadness. Then I started wondering about ordering from the UK site again and that is just what I did. I decided well if I’m going to order I might as well make it a good sized order. ¬†I also knew that I wanted to get a lot of products so it was a good timing.

Steps on ordering from Lush UK

  1. Check to make sure your bank/credit card allows international purchases
  2. Go to their UK website here
  3. Set up an account
  4. Add products to cart that your heart desires
  5. Add the same items to the Lush USA site here
  6. Compare the prices by using a currency converter using Google. I typed in British pounds to US dollars into Google and it brought it right up. (fyi: currency exchange rates change everyday)
  7. Decide which is better pricing and if it is worth it
  8. Click check out
  9. Enter address (Change country to United States. There was no place for State so I put my City and State under City)
  10. Enter Zip Code
  11. Add a message for samples! (I added that I would like samples of shampoo and conditioner for oily hair and that I wanted to try the Karma Kreme)
  12. Review and Submit
  13. Wait until a wonderful Lush package arrives at your door step.

So how did ordering go for me?

It was super easy! I ordered on a Friday and I got my package the following Wednesday! That is crazy fast for international shipping!!! My package also had tracking so that was nice. I was really surprised when it came so fast!

The Packaging!

IMG_0787

The samples!!! The I love Juicy shampoo spilled a little out of the sides, but nothing too serious!

So was it worth it?

After this post you may be commenting, “you need LA or Lush Anonymous,” but like I said if I’m paying international shipping I might as well make it worthwhile. I do think that it was worth it because even with international shipping (which was a lot), it was about 3o dollars cheaper! In not speaking of shipping it was $67.03 cheaper! That is astronomical! ¬†I think that is crazy! For example the Dream Cream in the US is $26.95 for 8.4 oz!!! Since I got it from Lush UK it was ¬£9.38! That comes out to be $15.31 for the same size!! So yes it was worth it!!! So I won’t be buying anything from Lush for awhile because well I’m all stocked up! Until next time I run out of Let the Good Times Roll! ūüėõ

With that I hope you enjoyed this post!!! Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these products! I will be having a lot of happy baths in my future!

Xoxo
