Monthly Beauty Favorites: March 2015

This year has seriously been flying by, but that just means that here in Minnesota we’re closer to warmer weather! I can’t wait to wear summer dresses and sandals! A few weekends back I ditched my winter jacket because it was 60 degrees out! People were jacket-less and grilling in the middle of March. That was a weird feeling, but that is Minnesota for you. This month I found some new beauty loves and some re-discoveries! With that, I hope you enjoy my March monthly favorites!

1) Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_20150328_124513[1]

This month I have been loving this matte palette from Tarte. This is a very wearable neutral all matte palette. It has 12 shades included; a row of cool tones, a row of warm tones, and a row of purple tones. I am quite surprised with how smooth and blend-able these shadows are. They’re very versatile shades as well. Not only do I like to use this palette alone, I also love pairing it with the Makeup Geek foiled eye-shadows; if I want to add a metallic finish to the matte look.

2) Brilliant & Spellbinding Eyeshadow Palette

IMG_20150328_124439[1]

I have had this palette for a little while now, but one day while doing my makeup I was in search of a coral shade. Be hold the amazing Brilliant and Spellbinding palette by Sigma Beauty. I also really love the yellow shade as well. This palette is very “Spring” feeling in my opinion with the pink, yellow, and coral shades. I really love the Sigma Beauty eyeshadow formula in these palettes. They’re very pigmented, blend-able, and smooth. They have four palettes like these all together. I am thinking about de-potting all 4 of these palettes into a z-palette.

3) Urban Decay 24/7 glide-On Eye Pencil in Scorch

IMG_20150328_124611[1]

During my last trip to the cities I was looking for a bronze-brown eyeliner shade and ending up finding the shade Scorch. I have been using this shade quite a bit lately. It is a gorgeous shade that works well with neutral looks. I love the Urban Decay’s eyeliner formula and find it to be the best out of any that I have tried. I love how creamy and easy to apply they are.

4) Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Iced Mocha

IMG_20150328_124631[1]

I really love my Nyx Jumbo pencils! They work really well as a base. I never use them on their own, but they could be if you wanted to. The shade Iced Mocha is a gorgeous shade and works well underneath any neutral look. I feel like these jumbo pencils help my eyeshadow last longer during the day. I still use Urban Decay’s original eyeshadow primer underneath.

5) Lush Cosmetics Honey Trap Lip Balm

IMG_20150328_124544[1]

Recently I re-discovered this lip balm. I had it before and ended up losing it, so when I was at Mall of America’s Lush store I decided to replace it. This stuff is super moisturizing and smells like honey. ūüėÄ I always use it before I go to bed and it keeps my lips moisturized and smooth. It is also made out of natural ingredients which is always a plus.

That concludes this month’s monthly favorites! What have you been loving this month? Have you tried any of these products? Comment and let me know!

Monthly Favorites: July 2014

IMG_20140723_181905226

Can it really be time for JULY of 2014 Favorites?!? Next month is August of 2014?!? Really?!! Didn’t we just celebrate News Years of maybe….2010 or 2007?!? I just want to slow down time because I am enjoying my summer and with it being August soon that means Fall is around the corner.

I have been loving quite a few things this month, but I decided on these 6 lovely products! Hope you enjoy!

1) INSTAIN Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush in Argyle
If you have been following me on Instagram you may have seen a photo of my haul from¬†The Balm. I was visiting my cousin in South Dakota and we were at Kohls and my jaw dropped because I didn’t know that Kohls carried The Balm. I have only gotten The Balm products online so I was excited to be able to see them in person. I decided on this lovely blush (also got a nail polish and a lip-gloss) and I am glad that I decided to pick it up because it is a gorgeous light pink shade. The Balm blushes are super pigmented and blendable. Also, isn’t the packaging just amazing?

2) tarte Amazonian clay full coverage airbrush foundation in light beige and airbuki bamboo powder foundation brush

I have been using this foundation since it came out. This was actually my first foundation that I ever bought. True story. I never wore foundation previous to that. But, then again I didn’t get into makeup until around age 21. But, as I am getting older my face has some redness. It covers my redness up without any issue and gives me a flawless finish. After using this for awhile, I decided that I wanted to try a liquid foundation…well because…I have never tried one before. I have used it for awhile and do like that one too. But, I just missed my powder foundation. I recently repurchased this foundation at a recent Ulta haul and have been loving it once again! The application is super easy, especially with the airbuki brush, which¬†came out at the same time as the foundation. The brush fits perfectly in the foundation’s packaging. There is a mesh cover that I press my brush against to get the perfect amount of foundation on my brush. Also, when the foundation cover is on the product stays put instead of spilling all over due to its design. I also love tarte because they’re more natural and are cruelty free. My mom used to use Clinique’s foundation. I even got her to switch to this and she has noticed a huge difference with her oily skin. So yes, this foundation is both good for dry to oily¬†skin, and of course normal skin.

3) tarte colored clay CC primer in light

Dark circles have been known to be genetic, so I probably can never get them to go away fully. Thanks family! My alternating shifts don’t help matters either, so I am always trying to find the next big thing to help cover up those panda eyes. When I was at Ulta with my cousin, she recommended that I try this product. She stated that it helps her with her dark circles. I am really glad that I gave this product a go because I love it! I just apply this over my under-eyes and blend before adding any foundation. I also do add some concealer as well, but this primer has really helped cover up those unwanted dark circles. The product itself is very creamy and easy to blend into the skin. The only thing is that it was quite pricey, but tarte in itself is quite pricey.

4) The Balm Read my Lips Lip Gloss in the shade Zaap!

Here is that lip-gloss that I got in my The Balm haul from Kohl’s. I am quite impressed with this lovely lip-gloss. It has to probably be one of my favorites I’ve ever tried. It is creamy, pigmented, but not sticky. It does need to be reapplied throughout the day, but that doesn’t bother me. I would rather have to reapply than to have it be sticky. The more sticky a lip gloss is, the more long lasting. This shade is gorgeous! It can be applied more sheer to the lips or it can be applied more opaque as well. This lip-gloss does have a pleasant fruity scent. I do like the packaging. I wish I had a picture of the outer box that¬†it¬†came in because The Balm has amazing packaging. Overall, I am quite impressed with this lip-gloss and want to try more colors from this collection.

5) Sleek i-Divine Garden of Eden Palette

I got this palette from Jacquelyn from The Little Scottish Corner in our beauty swap. I have been really loving this Sleek palette this month because green is one of my favorite colors. ¬†Purple is my all time favorite color and a few pinkish-purple shades are included in this palette as well. This palette is just gorgeous and it reminds me of nature and being outside. This palette comes with both shimmery and matte shades. I love the shimmery shades quite a bit. They’re super pigmented and blendable. I plan on doing a more detailed review coming soon!

Here is an Instagram photo of a look that I created using this palette…

6) Sephora and Pantone Universe Rush Luster Cheek Sweep

I saw this on clearance at Sephora recently. Once again, I blame Coffee Break with Dani on YouTube for this purchase because she raved about it. I can totally understand why. These are honestly the softest blushes I have ever had the chance of¬†trying out. They’re amazingly pigmented, the swatches down below are just one swipe of the finger. They’re so buttery soft and just plain right amazing. I really enjoy the first shade, the third shade in the palette is pretty bold so I haven’t given that shade a chance quite yet. But, the first blush shade is GORGEOUS and it is a favorite of mine.

Lancaster Vanilla and Caramel Soft Cremes

I recently saw these at Target and decided to give them a try. I am so glad that I decided to pick them up because they’re so delicious! They are super soft¬†and just amazing! I recommend trying them if you’re a fan of caramels.

That concludes July’s monthly favorites! Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these items. What did you think of the items I included in my favorites! Comment and let me know! I love hearing from you!

Beauty Blogger Collaboration: Makeup Through The Ages -1960

1907337_10201859612924643_1540852947928680308_n

Do you see the title of this blog collaboration?!?! I am beyond ecstatic to be doing this wonderful “Makeup Through the Ages” post with a bunch of other amazing beauty bloggers from all over the world! Awhile back I had asked my followers to take part in this awesome collaboration with me! ¬†ūüôā As you may know, makeup has changed quite a bit throughout time. Our blog collaboration will take our readers on a journey through the ages starting with Egyptians, skipping numerous years, then the roaring 1920s to present day, and then of course futuristic! I can’t wait to see what all the other ladies came up with!

My Decade

Untitled

I picked the 1960s for a couple of reasons! I love the music! I am a big classic rock fan. I love the song, “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. I posted a YouTube video just in case you have never heard of it! I, of course, also loved THE BEATLES! They’re one of my favorite bands!

A Little History Lesson!

1960 JFK (John F. Kennedy) beats Richard Nixon in the¬†presidential¬†election to become the 35th US President. The book “To Kill a Mockingbird” was published.
1961 “West Side Story” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” comes to the big screen.
1962 Marilyn Monroe dies of an overdose. World wide television and cable became a reality. Eleanor Roosevelt dies. My amazing mum is born!
1963 The Beatles take Britain by storm. JFK is assassinated. My amazing dad is born!
1964 Bob Dylan becomes popular. Color television! The first primetime Soap Opera “Peyton¬†Place” appears on¬†television. Martin Luther King Jr. gets the Nobel Peace Prize.
1965¬†“The Sound of Music” premieres. Martin Luther King Jr. works on the Voting Rights Act.
1966 The first “Star Trek” episode aires. Walt Disney dies.
1967 PBS is created. “The Jungle Book” comes out.¬†
1968 “60 Minutes” first airs. The movie rating system starts (PG, PG-13, Rated R, etc.) Martin Luther King Jr. dies.
1969¬†“Sesame Street” was born. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the moon.

Information found here and here.

The 1960s Beauty Trends

I did do some research online, but I got most of my information from my grandparents who grew up in the 1960s.

  • Dramatic makeup looks.
  • Pedal Pushers! Which in today’s age are known as capris.
  • The mini skirt makes its way into fashion!
  • Big Hair!!!! Lots of volume! Remember the movie “Hairspray” and their crazy volume?!? That takes place in the 1960s.
  • A lot of black liner!
  • Cut creases (mostly used black)
  • Nude lips also became popular in the 1960s. But, my grandma said that in the early 1960s, red lips were super popular!
  • Colorful eye looks!
  • Thick full lashes on both the bottom and top as worn by Twiggy in the 1960s.
  • The Nurses hat! (So glad I don’t have to wear that in my nursing career)!

MAKEUP

When I first decided I was going to do the decade of the 1960s, I of course, wanted to do a blue eye-shadow look because it just screams the 1960s in my opinion. When I was talking to my grandmas, they both said blue eye-shadow was the craze. I have never done a cut crease, so my look is going to be a little softer than the Twiggy version of a cut crease with an intense black line.

IMG_20140615_173912281

I love my Nyx Jumbo pencil in milk because it definitely helps eyeshadows pop, especially a blue shade. I layered that on top of my Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer.¬†The white base does not need to be perfect because, well, it will be turning blue here soon…

primer

I recently got the Mac Fix+ because I visited my first ever Mac store and felt like this was a good purchase. Basically, I sprayed my eyeshadow brush with this Mac Fix+ to moisten it and that helped make the shadow more pigmented and  give it a more harsh look.

perfect duo

There I am adding the crazy blue shadow single which is from the amazing brand of Urban Decay and in the shade Peace. I recently got a new makeup mirror, as you can see in the photo, and I love it! I will be doing a post on that sometime soon.

blue shadow

I never ever wear winged eyeliner, so I’ll be honest, this was really new to me. Therefore, ….. TAPE! I applied tape so I would get it even. Placement of the winged eyeliner is supposed to follow the bottom lash line into a wing. But, before you add fresh tape onto your poor little delicate under eyes, put it on your hand first to take away some of the stickiness. I used 2 different eyeliners for this look. The first one I used is by Collection and it is their 24 hour felt tip eyeliner. I used that along the lashline and the wing (basically the whole eyeliner part). The second eyeliner was just a little blacker, so I added that eyeliner on top of the one from Collection. That eyeliner is from The Balm and it is their Schwing liquid eyeliner.

eyeliner

This was probably the hardest part of the look. Making it look like a “cut crease.” As you can see in the photo, I just took the shade Blackout and applied it in the crease. I did blend it a little bit so it isn’t quite the same as Twiggy. But, you get the point. I also applied some Blackout shadow under my lash line as well.

adding in the black

Time for mascara! I decided to try the Rimmel London Scandaleyes Retro Glam mascara. I really wanted dark¬†voluminous¬†lashes and I didn’t want to have to put fakes ones on, so this was the next best thing.

macara

I wanted to add a little shimmer to my look, therefore, The Balm’s Overshadow in Work is OverRated comes to the stage.

finishing touch

Apparently in the 1960’s¬†a lot of people would¬†shave off their eyebrows and draw them on. They did draw them in on the heavier side and more of a straight line. Yeah, I’m not going to do that.

brows

I used the products that I usually use from day to day. In the 1960s they liked more of a matte over a dewy finish. I used Porefessional from Benefit for a primer. Then, my tarte Amazonian clay foundation in Light Sand. Finally, I finished off with my bareMinerals Mineral Veil powder.

face

Time for some bronzer, highlighter, and some blush. I hardly ever wear bronzer, ever! But, I decided to use my Pur Minerals Mineral Glow. The highlighter I used is the famous Mary-Lou Manizer from The Balm. In the 1960s they wore a lot of coral blush. Hence, I thought that my Sleek blush in the shade coral would be perfect to add to this look.

bronzer

I really wish that I would have worn a nude lipstick, because I have the perfect one. I did wear a red lipstick because my grandma had said that in the early 1960s, red was popular and that during that time they came out with more shades: nudes, pinks, etc. I just finally had a reason to wear a red lipstick. I used my Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in the shade Theodora. I got it in my Theodora palette from The Great and Powerful Oz.

HAIR

1) In the 1960s, they wore a lot of hair accessories. So I decided to use my headband (from Maurices) for some extra 1960s style. I just parted my hair on the side and put the headband into place. Then I combed back the rest of the hair that was behind the headband.
2) Since they ratted their hair a lot to get extreme volume I decided to try this voluminizing powder from Not Your Mothers. It did work pretty well, because I was able to comb through my ratted hair with no difficulty. Do not try ratting your hair without using a powder like this, otherwise it will be a snarly mess.
3) After applying the powder in the roots, I took a comb and started ratting.
4) For some extra volume I decided to have a little mini bun that the ratted hair from step 3 will cover.
5) I just continued to rat all my hair around the headband, until it looked something like this…
6) Pin back the hair with a bobby pin making sure to cover the bun. I did have a flower clip that I placed over the bobby pins. You will be able to see it in the photos below.

THE COMPLETED LOOK

This is my completed look. I really like that it looks very 1960s. Comment if you agree?!? This eye look is obviously not an everyday look, but they sure loved their blue eyeshadow back then.

completed makeup

FASHION

This is probably where I had the most fun with this collaboration. Picking out my outfit!! I feel like the neckline of the shirt I’m wearing is perfect! In the 1960s they wore a lot of rounded collar necklines, whether¬†it be a shirt or a dress, that style was in. It is also a perfect blue shade! I of course spotted this shirt at Maurices. No surprise there! My pedal pushers or capris (whatever you prefer to call them) are also from Maurices. They didn’t usually wear blue jean pedal pushers (like in today’s age), but more khaki or colorful ones instead. My black flats I have had forever, but I’m 99.9% sure I got them at Famous Footwear. My necklace I felt was very fitting for this decade with the silver hoops. That is from the jewelry company, “Premier Designs.” Both my earrings and bracelet are from Maurices. They would wear big hoop earrings, but this was the most dangly earring I had.

SOME SHIBA INU LOVE…
Since hardly anybody has heard of a Shiba Inu in today’s age, I’m sure Shiba Inus were quite rare then. But, that didn’t stop me from taking some photos with my pup Mirya! She is so photogenic!

shiba

That concludes this post! I hope that you enjoyed reading it. Let me know what you think of my makeup, hair, and outfit. I had a lot of fun doing this. Doing 1960s makeup and hair isn’t the easiest, so I am glad that I don’t have to rat my hair like they did back in the day. Also, so glad that I don’t have to wear those white nurses hats. Make sure to check out all the other lovely ladies’ posts that are part of this.

Day 28 Box Swap Item: Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner by Collection

I’ve always been in search for the “perfect” black liquid eye-liner. I have tried quite a few black eye-liners throughout my make-up years and I could never find the perfect one. I feel like applying black liquid eyeliner is a hard thing to do. ¬†It is so harsh since it is black meaning ¬†a little mistake could ruin the whole look. There are also numerous different types of liquid eyeliners, but the most common one I see¬†are the¬†pens with a felt tip applicator. I have tried both drug-store and prestige brands. The brand Collection is a drug-store brand that is available in the United Kingdom. I was really excited when I opened this black eyeliner up from Stephanie Wright during our box swap. If you haven’t check out her blog yet, then you NEED to because she is amazing! You can find her blog here.

Collection’s Overview!¬†

Looking through Collection’s website I find that they’re just like any other makeup brand where they carry numerous different makeup items. The full name of the eyeliner that I was sent is Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner by Collection in the shade Black.

What Collection says about this eyeliner is stated below and in italics. Information was found on their website here.

– Easy-to-apply felt tip nib for all day long lustrous looking eyes.

– The fast-drying versatile felt tipped pens give your makeup look an instant burst of colour.

– Set trends with four intense, high powered hues including purple, blue, teal and black.

*Not suitable for contact lens wearers

My Overview

First of all, I will state that I wear contacts, so I’m not unsure why they say, “Not suitable for contact lens wearers.” Oops! I wear contacts pretty much all the time, except for work. I have been wearing this eyeliner with no issues with my contacts. Comment and let me know if you know what they meant by this??

The packaging of the eyeliner is just like a pen with a felt tip as the applicator. There will be a picture of the applicator down below.

IMG_1204

The ingredients as listed on the pen itself. I know it is hard to read, but it does have parabens in it. I don’t find that surprising because a lot of makeup has parabens in it. Even Lush Cosmetics uses parabens.

IMG_1824

Application & Swatches

Here is a picture of some swatches. It does give a really nice black shade that can be more subtle or built up for a more intense black.

IMG_1825

I’m really amazed by the application of this product. The first time I used this eyeliner it felt amazing because it went on so well. I was able to get that perfect eyeliner look that I haven’t found with others I’ve tried! It still does go on really well, but there was just something about that first time. It hasn’t dried up either since opening it, which is always a good thing! Since getting this eyeliner, it has been my “go-to” black eyeliner. The eyeliner lasts all day. It also dries really fast and dries to a matte consistency. Even a coworker/friend of mine even stated, “Your eyeliner always looks so good.” That is probably because this lovely eyeliner came into my life and made makeup application so much easier! If you go all the way back to my first post on this box swap,¬†pretty much all the FOTD pictures featuring a black liquid eyeliner are with this star. If you want to see more pictures than the one below, ¬†make sure to check out my Sleek Storm Palette review. I used this eyeliner is every look shown. You can find that review here.

IMG_1518 IMG_1289

Overall, I want to thank you for introducing me to this lovely eyeliner! It has really helped improve my eyeliner skills.

A Comparison between all my liquid eyeliners!

I thought it would be fun to share with you all the liquid eyeliner pens that I have tried. Comment below if you have tried any of these!

Here is a picture of all my liquid eyeliners in my collection in some sort of black shade.

  • Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner
  • Stila Stay all Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner
  • Flower On Your Mark Liquid Eye Liner
  • Tarte multiplEYE Lash Enhancing Liquid Eyeliner
  • The Balm Schwing Black Liquid Eyeliner

IMG_20140427_144929545

Going from top to bottom on both photos: Collection, Stila, Flower, Tarte, and The Balm.

PicMonkey Collage

The eyeliner from Collection has the thickest applicator of them all. The tip of the applicator is pretty stiff. The eyeliner is the easiest to apply out of all of them. This eyeliner lasts throughout the day.

The eyeliner from Stila is a waterproof formula so it was the hardest to remove out of all of them. I think that this eyeliner is semi-hard to apply. The tip of this applicator is a little flimsy, but not bad at all. The tip is really small for getting a precise application. This eyeliner lasts throughout the day. I feel like this eyeliner tip was a little too thin for me, so I would have to go over it multiple times to get the thickness that I wanted. By doing that there is a bigger chance to screw up.

The eyeliner from Flower is the lightest of them all. It may look blacker in the swatch, but it is quite a light black when applied. The application is mediocre. The tip of the applicator is very flimsy making application a little difficult. This eyeliner lasts most of the day, but it does fade. This eyeliner is from Drew Barrymore’s makeup brand available at Wal-Mart.

The eyeliner from Tarte has the thinnest applicator of all the pens. I really do like this eyeliner because application is easier than the others (besides the Collection one). The tip is a little flexible, but it has the right amount of flexibility without being overboard like the Flower one. This eyeliner lasts throughout the day. As with the Stila eyeliner, I have to go over multiple times over the line to get the thickness I want, making for a possible error.

The eyeliner from The Balm is totally different from the rest, but I felt like it was important to include. This eyeliner is the most liquidy out of all of them, but that makes sense since of the applicator. Because of this, drying time takes longer, but it does dry to a matte finish. The applicator has some flexibility to it, but applying this you need to be super careful since it is super black. This eyeliner lasts throughout the day.

Once again, I am really loving the Collection eyeliner. That just proves that just because it is high end, doesn’t mean it is necessarily better. Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these eyeliners that I have mentioned!

With that,

Day 26!! Get Ready with Me: A Girl’s Night Out Blog Hop!!!

Can you believe that April is coming to an end?!? That is crazy! But, I have a happy feeling with that, because I actually wore sandals today. It felt amazing! Absolutely¬†amazing! Hopefully Spring is here to stay!¬†This lovely blog hop was lead by the amazing Jacquelyn from The Little Scottish Corner. Jacquelyn, a few other ladies, and I, decided to post a blog hop, “Get Ready with Me: Girl’s Night Out.” Aaah the agony of deciding what palette to use?!? Yes, I may be a little bit of a palette addict! I decided to go with my newest palette by Too Faced which is the Chocolate Bar palette. Let me tell you this….not only do I love this palette, but it smells amazing! Sometimes I just open it again, just so I can get a whiff of chocolate.

Part 2: The fun part! The Shadow!

Step 1: Open the palette and smell the amazing chocolate scent!

IMG_20140425_123505548

Step 2: Take a flat shader brush and apply the color Marzipan onto the inner half of the eyelid.

IMG_20140425_123552913

Step 3: Take another flat shader brush or flip the current brush around and take Haute Chocolate and place that shade on the outer half of the eyelid.

IMG_20140425_123753381

Step 4: Take a crease brush and add the shade Milk Chocolate into the crease. Make sure to blend, blend, blend!

Step 5: Take a pencil brush with the shade Black Forest Truffle and add some definition to the outer V and blend a little bit of that shade into the crease. This shade has some sparkles and is very pretty!

IMG_20140425_124240222_HDR

Step 6: Take a blending brush and take the shade White Chocolate and apply it below the eyebrow and blend out the harsh lines of Milk Chocolate.

IMG_20140425_124346597

Step 7: Take the Overshadow in Work is Overrated from The Balm and apply it all over the lid for some extra shimmer! Perfect for a night out!

IMG_20140425_124623425

Step 8: Take the shade Champagne Truffle and apply it in the inner corner by the tear duct.

Part 3: Eyeliner, Mascara, Face, and Lips

Step 9: Add liquid eyeliner! I used my Collection eyeliner from the UK!

IMG_20140425_125133316

Step 10: I did not like the liquid eyeliner for this look because I felt like it was too harsh, but adding Black Forest Truffle really softened up the look. I used a pencil brush to apply the shadow.

Step 11:  Apply mascara!

Step 12: Put on that face!

I love my Sigma F80 for applying foundation! It gives me a flawless finish!

IMG_20140425_125857151

Love this concealer that I got in my box swap! Thanks Effie!

IMG_20140425_130333380

Step 13: Apply blush and highlighter! I didn’t contour, even though I probably should have for a night out look. I have yet to find a good brush for that, so I usually shy away from bronzer powders at the moment.

IMG_20140425_130140340

Step 14: Finishing Powder!

IMG_20140425_130550258

I use this brush to set my concealer because it fits perfectly under my eye area.

IMG_20140425_130646191

Step 15: Pout those lips!

I got this Cailyn product from my Ipsy bag and this Julep lipgloss from a few Julep Maven boxes back.

Step 16: Add those finishing touches!

The Final Look

I could not get the camera to capture the actually look. In the photos you can’t see the shimmer! ūüė¶ ¬†I need to figure out a way to capture my makeup looks more effectively!

IMG_20140425_131215970

The lip products faded throughout the day, so here are some pictures with a different lip!

That concludes this Get Ready with Me post! I know it was more like a tutorial! I decided to just do my makeup! Although, a big part of a girl’s night out would include fashion, hair and nails!!! Comment and let me know what you thought! Also, have you tried the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette!?!?

Monthly Favorites: February 2014

Well we’re almost a week into March and I have yet to post my monthly favorites for February. I still decided that I wanted to share this post with you! February went by way too fast! I can’t believe it’s March!

20140305-163739.jpg

PALETTES

20140305-163746.jpg

1) Naked 3
Surprise! Who would have guessed that this palette would be in my monthly favorites?!? I absolutely love it! Rose gold neutrals were perfect for February. I did do a review and comparison on this palette, along with the other 2 Naked palettes. Check it out here.

2) Sigma Beauty Warm Neutral Palette
This month I was also loving this palette! I think it has amazing colors! It was featured on my recent blog hop (5 items I would bring on a last minute¬†road trip). I just really think that Sigma’s eye shadows improved with this palette compared to their others. I love the array of colors and finishes included. Make sure to check out my review on this palette here.

BRUSHES

20140305-163753.jpg

3) Tarte Buffy Bamboo Face Powder Brush (More information on this brush here)
I am really loving this brush! It is super soft and I use it to apply my mineral veil powder. It helps give a flawless finish with the powder. Also this brush is cruelty free which I love!!! Yes the price tag is hefty, but a lot of Tarte’s products are expensive. The brush has¬†super nice quality. I have not noticed losing any bristles at all.

4) The Balm Powder to the People  (Powder/Blush Brush) (More information on this brush here)
I also really love this brush, but I use this one for blush. It isn’t as soft as some brushes that I have, but soft enough in my opinion. Sometimes if brushes are too soft, then it is hard to pick up product. I feel like this one is perfect. It isn’t scratchy on my face or anything like that. This seems to be my “go-to” blush brush.

BLUSH/POWDER

5) Tarte Amazionan Clay 12-Hour Blush (You can find more information on the blush here)
I have this blush in the color Glisten. It is the only Tarte blush that I own, but I can tell you that I would love to have more. Once again, because it is Tarte, it does have a hefty price tag. But, this blush goes on amazingly and had the perfect amount of pigmentation. I think that the color is a perfect everyday pink color. It does have some sparkle in the pan, but it looks amazing on the cheek.  It also has longevity which is always a nice thing to have in a makeup product.

20140305-163831.jpg

6. bareMinerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder (You can find more information on this powder here)
Here is another item that was featured on my blog hop post. I just think that this powder gives me a nice finish. I don’t have oily skin or anything, but I just like how it completes the look and gives me more of an airbrushed finish. I have this powder in original. The only thing that I don’t like about it, is that it is sort of messy. But, that is to be a little expected, because it is a loose powder. It is easy to get the right amount of powder wanted without wasting it, because there is a nice closure part that keeps the powder in place when not in use.

20140305-163804.jpg

Tv Shows

The Voice started up again, but this time with Shakira and Usher instead of Christina Aquilera and CeeLo Green. I have to say that I love this group of judges way more. They make it more interesting and keep me involved without my mind drifting.  I, of course, have been loving my ABC Family shows (Switched at Birth, The Fosters, and Twisted).

Movies (Pictures from IMDB)

Endless Love: Yes! I will admit that I love chick flicks. I really did like this movie, although it isn’t my favorite. I thought it had a cute story.
The Lego Movie: Yes! I did go to this movie. Well…because I only had brothers growing up and they loved Legos. It was better than I thought it was going to be. I think it was cute. “Everything is Amazing.” Yes, that theme song was stuck in my head for awhile after seeing this movie.
12 Years a Slave: I thought that this was a really good movie. Very powerful! Congrats on winning the Oscar for best picture and also to Lupita Nyong’o on winning best supporting actress! You deserved it!!

Endless Love (2014) Poster The Lego Movie (2014) Poster

12 Years a Slave (2013) Poster

Books: Sadly, I didn’t finish a book this month! My New Year’s Resolution is already down the drain! ūüė¶ I did start reading, “Divergent” so, hopefully, I will finish that book in March. I know the movie is coming out soon!

What am I looking forward to in March?
The Hunger Games Catching Fire Blue-ray/DVD release
Frozen Blue-ray/DVD release (so excited!!!)
Hopefully less days that are below zero and being closer to Spring/Summer

This completes my February favorites! Comment and let me know what your favorites have been and if you have tried any of these products!

My Skin Care Routine Blog Hop!

1487726_10201146497937214_782401607_o

Did you know that the skin is the largest organ in the body? The skin is part of the Integumentary¬†System, and without that…we would look very freaky. Imagine that! Was that a scary visual? So taking care of the largest organ in the body is pretty important. I belong to this amazing Facebook group called, “The Beauty and Fashion Blog Community” and this month’s blog hop is SKIN CARE! I have been meaning to write a post about this for awhile now and now is the perfect time.

More information on the Facebook Group here!

MY SKIN TYPE IS…

Dry

MORNING SKIN CARE ROUTINE

CLEANSERS

Washing the face is a very important step in the skin care regimen. Getting rid of all those impurities is a must!

I use a few different cleansers at this time. I haven’t found my holy grail one yet, besides my Lush facial scrub that I will talk about later. But, I don’t want to use a scrub every single day!

Clean & Clear Morning Burst

What Clean & Clear says, “From the invigorating MORNING BURST¬†collection comes MORNING BURST¬†Facial Cleanser. This unique gel cleanser with Vitamin C and Ginseng wakes you up with a fresh citrus scent while soft BURSTING BEADS¬†burst with energy and vitamins, leaving your skin feeling clean, energized and ready to face the day.” More information on this product here.

20140127-145412.jpg

I really do like this cleanser, but I am also not a fan of it at the same time. That is why I say I don’t have a holy grail cleanser yet. Comment on any recommendations!!!

It does smell nice and does wake me up, but I hate that it has all that chemical junk in it. ¬†Yes, there is sodium lauryl sulfate in it. Surprise!! That is what makes it lather so well. It is oil free and has bursting beads which is a good thing. ¬†It does clean my face nice and I don’t get any redness or breakouts from it. I do feel like it does dry my face out a bit, which I already have pretty dry skin so that is a con. But, all in all it is a nice cheap cleanser that you can get at a variety of locations (Target, Wal-Mart, etc.), but I am willing to try a different one.

Zum Face Gentle Facial Cleanser

This is by a company called, “Indigo Wild.” It is hard to find so I have been slowly using it. If you’re wondering more about, “Indigo Wild” and other products they make I did a review here.

What Indigo Wild says, “This gentle facial cleanser penetrates pores with saponified oils of certified organic coconut, olive and jojoba, pure essential oils of lemon and geranium, vitamin E and vegetable glycerin. It’s gentle, hydrating, and perfect for those whose skin is on a liquid diet.” More information on this product here.¬†

This is a natural facial cleanser and it is made from: Saponified oils of certified organic coconut, certified organic olive, castor, and certified organic jojoba, pure essential oils, tocopherol (vitamin e), sodium borate and vegetable glycerin.

20140127-145423.jpg

It does lather really well without those harsh ingredients. The scent is of lemon and geraniums, but it is a stronger scent. Luckily it doesn’t last on the face. It does have a pump for easy assess. The price is expensive for what you get, but you only need a tiny bit at least. It does cost $10 for 4 oz. Since it is hard to find and shipping is hefty I don’t use it everyday, but it does make my face feel clean and refreshed and I don’t have breakouts from this product. I also love that it is natural!

Let the Good Times Roll Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser

What Lush says, “A luxuriously soft and sweetly-scented cleanser, Let The Good Times Roll is made with maize flour and corn meal to gently exfoliate, and a dash of cinnamon powder to cleanse and warm cold winter skin. Its rich, velvety texture leaves your skin perfectly balanced, glowing and smelling like sweet and salted caramel corn. No wonder this cleanser is so popular!”¬†More¬†information on this product here.¬†

20140128-154447.jpg

I love it! I would use it everyday if I could, but I probably shouldn’t use an exfoliater everyday. I did do a review of this and you can check it out here. I have been using it for awhile now since my review and I have to say that this is a holy grail product of mine. It smells amazing for one thing! It makes my face feel nice and smooth. It’s made fresh and made of natural ingredients. I just love it!

TONERS

Eau Roma Water Toner by Lush

This was a step that I never thought was important until coming across Lush.

What Lush says about it, “Dry, sensitive or mature needs a gentle touch. In a world of ‚Äútechnology‚ÄĚ loaded cosmetics, using a toner with only two active ingredients may seem unusual. But at LUSH, we believe in using effective ingredients instead of filler. Our most moisturizing toner, Eau Roma relies on the King and Queen of the essential oils world, rose and lavender. Both oils have been used for thousands of years to treat dryness, redness or irritation. Rose is particularly nourishing and cooling, while lavender helps your skin produce the right amount sebum (oil) to keep it suppler. Simplicity at its best.” You can find more information here.¬†

20140127-145437.jpg

I think doing this step using this toner is important for me because it is for dry skin. It helps moisturize my skin and get it ready for my moisturizer. The scent is very light and it softens my dry skin. I apply my moisturizer when my toner is still wet. I don’t know why, but doing it that way makes it seem like it lasts longer. It also helps my redness go away.

20140127-145457.jpg

Lush is known for being made from fresh ingredients, so they do have an expiration date.

EYE CREAM

PurMinerals Tone-Up Eye Cream

I think that a lot of eye creams have a lot of false claims. I’ve tried a few eye creams and this one is very new to me, so I won’t have that great of a review on it yet. But, I decided to look at the claims on the website and this is what I found.

  • 66% increase in skin hydration after 14 days
  • 60% reduction in skin roughness after 56 days
  • 50% reduction in wrinkle depth after 28 days

What PurMinerals says about it, “This intensive eye treatment is designed to firm, lift and smooth the delicate eye area for total eye fitness. Containing two breakthrough clinically tested super-ingredients‚ÄĒincluding our proprietary Dermafit Mineral Complex‚ÄĒTone Up provides essential hydration, stimulation and antioxidant protection to minimize the look of premature wrinkles, roughness and dryness. This all-in-one formula is the p√ľr solution for puffy eyes, dark circles and crow‚Äôs feet.¬†Paraben-free.¬† Net Wt: .5 fl oz” ¬†You can find more information here.¬†

20140127-145545.jpg

Like I said I haven’t used this product much yet, but first off the pump doesn’t work which is a big con! But, it is moisturizing, which is nice for my under eye area. ¬†I work alternating 12 hours shifts, so I haven’t seen much improvement yet, but I never do with eye creams.

MOISTURIZER

Juniper Oil-Free Face Moisturizer from The Balm

What The Balm says, “Juniper Oil-Free Face Moisturizer has a wonderful lightweight texture, perfect for anyone who prefers to live an oil-free lifestyle! A mixture of humectants ensure that your skin is perfectly hydrated throughout the day.” You can find more information here.¬†

20140127-145609.jpg

I love this product. It is moisturizing for my dry skin. I know it says for normal to combination skin, but it really does help with moisture. I don’t get oily from it either. It does have a nice light smell that I like. It has a nice consistency that makes it easy to blend into the face. ¬†The reason I found this product was through Hautelook and I got it for half price. At that time I decided to order two, this is my second one. I will definitely order more when I’m out!

NIGHTTIME ROUTINE

CLEANSER

Purity One Step Facial Cleanser by Philosophy

What Philosophy says about it, “purity made simple one-step facial cleanser is our award-winning cleanser, loved by all for its multitasking, 3-in-1 approach to cleansing. purity made simple gently cleanses, tones and melts away all face and eye makeup in one simple step, while lightly hydrating. skin is left feeling perfectly clean, comfortable and balanced.” You can find more information here.¬†

20140127-145403.jpg

I love this product! When I first heard about it, I didn’t think that it would work as well as it does. It is really gentle! It removes my mascara like a pro!!! Also it cleanses my face!!! A makeup remover and a cleanser all in 1 step. A little bit goes a long way! I have had this for quite awhile and I’m almost half-way done with it.

EYE CREAM

Tarte Maracuja C Brighter Eye Treatment

What Tarte says, “Refresh, renew and recharge tired eyes with our eye treatment enriched with C-brighter‚ĄĘ technology. By harnessing the power of maracuja fruit, vitamin C and advanced botanicals, this skintuitive‚ĄĘ eye treatment visibly hydrates, firms and brightens the delicate eye area. ” You can find more information here.

20140127-145537.jpg

I still have my idea about eye creams promising too much! I don’t really notice much difference with this eye cream. It does moisturize my under-eyes, but it doesn’t help with my dark circles what so ever. But, I still say no eye cream can help a nurse’s under-eyes with rotating shifts. I just felt like it was an important thing to include in my skin care routine because I have been using it for the last few months. I won’t repurchase it either because it is too expensive!

MOISTURIZER

Tarte Maracuja Oil

What Tarte says, “Not all oil is created equal. This earth-prescribed treatment oil targets your individual skin concerns and delivers harmony and moisture for firmer, brighter, smoother-looking skin.” You can find more information here.

20140128-154424.jpg 20140128-154335.jpg

I really like this oil! I love that it is pure maracuja oil and natural. I was not a fan of the price at all! Since I only used it once a day it did seem to last long, but I do have really dry skin so I did use it up quicker. I use about 4 drops or so and apply it all over my face. It makes my skin feel nice and moisturized. I don’t have any redness or breakout problems from it. Also when I wake up my face feels super soft.

So that ends my skincare routine! Make sure to check out the other lovely posts down below!!!! I plan on checking them out too because I’m in hunt for a different everyday morning cleanser. With that, I hope you all have a wonderful day! Comment and let me know if you have tried any of these products and what you think of them!!!
